Despite an uproar over his remarks about gays, Carl P. Paladino appeared on national television on Monday and expressed revulsion at gay pride parades.
Mr. Paladino restated his criticism of Andrew M. Cuomo, his Democratic opponent for governor of New York, for having taken his young daughters to a gay pride parade, saying that such events were inappropriate for children.
Is that normal? Would you do it? Would you take your children to a gay pride parade? Mr. Paladino asked the host Matt Lauer on the Today show, speaking of Mr. Cuomo.
I dont think its proper for them to go there and watch a couple of grown men grind against each other. I dont think thats proper. I think its disgusting.
No, I dont regret the remarks, he added.
On Sunday, Mr. Paladino, speaking to a group of Orthodox Jewish leaders in Brooklyn, said children should not be brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option it isnt.

"Despite an uproar over his remarks about gays, Carl P. Paladino appeared on national television on Monday and expressed revulsion at gay pride parades."
I'd say Mr. Paladino is doing it to himself. His advisors should be horse-whipped. Paladino himself will pay the price on election day.
Most are not just cultural liberals...but just plain old troll liberals.
The Dems don't have a leg to stand on. They're as phoney as a $3 bill.
Cuomo at a gay parade with his two young daughters....disgusting!!!
You can't influence positively by caving, compromising and capitulating. If that's what the people of NY want, that's the Governor they'll elect. At least in this election, they have a choice in Paladino. If they opt for Cuomo, they will "win" exactly what they elect, and be governed accordingly.
What is wrong with saying and doing what’s right—even if you don’t get elected? How is that wrong? Should he lie and say gay parades are fabulous?
One gay parade, I believe in Atlanta, made a child the Grand Marshall.
If you have ever seen the antics at these parades, of course you realize children should never be near them.
Fifty years ago, exposing a kid to this sort of stuff would get you jailed. Now it seems you are some sort of civil rights hero.
Carry on, Mr. Paladino.
“That any politician of a major party running for office would be this blunt about it... well its rare.”
I wonder why, though. The great majority of American are opposed to this garbage.
“The only thing that I think should be allowed is that they should be allowed to go to the hospital for goodness sake to see their loved ones who are dying or had surgery or whatever.”
This is a common observance, but in reality, a patient in a hospital can allow anyone they want to come and visit them.
His job right now is to get elected. That has to be his focus.
The whole "gay parades" thing is an issue that a few ill-considered gum-flaps by a candidate is not going to affect in any case; and by choosing this as a battle, he has given up his winning issues to voluntarily play defense on something he cannot affect, and that can only hurt him.
Stupid.
How is that wrong? Should he lie and say gay parades are fabulous?
He doesn't have to say anything at all. He's picking a remarkably stupid battle, at a remarkably stupid time.
Now, instead of it being a race about taxes, finances, and other things on which he has Cuomo beat; he's made it into a fight on faggotry, which he cannot win.
“I’d say Mr. Paladino is doing it to himself. His advisors should be horse-whipped. Paladino himself will pay the price on election day. ‘
Why so? the majority of Americans -and I assume New Yorkers - do not approve of most of the gay agenda.
“I have little doubt that a pretty good percentage of homosexuals feel the same way about what goes on at those pride parades. I know if heterosexuals were behaving in a similar way, in public, I would find it disgusting.”
You don’t know those in the “lifestyle” well. The parades are the sodomite mainstream. Exhibitionism is the sodomite mainstream. Wild promiscuity is the sodomite mainstream. Drug abuse is the sodomite mainstream. Anonymous sex in public places (”Tea Room Culture”) is the sodomite mainstream. Serious physical violence against their “partners” is the sodomite mainstream. Having loathsome STDs is the sodomite mainstream. Sexual interest in “youths” is the sodomite mainstream.
Other than that, sodomites are just like everyone else.
The voters in New York who pay any attention to these distractions have already made up their minds, and feeding into these distractions is only taking time away from discussing the issues like tax relief and cleaning up Albany that the undecideds are interested in. Paladino needs to stay on message and quit taking the bait.
And you can't win an election by not only tossing away your winning hand, but actually passing a couple of aces to your opponent.
The thing that kills me is that Paladino picked this stupid fight on his own. What in HELL was he thinking?
Response: I agree with this man.
All the Archie Bunkers in Queens are giving the high five. Hopefully, there are enough of them to negate the votes of the wine and brie crowd on the upper west side of Manhattan.
Anyone who looks at Cuomo has to start thinking that the guy probably has strange sexual problems.
Paladino is positioning himself as the guy who has normal views on sex.
This not a dumb strategy. I agree that the Big Topic is finances, but showing that you are a normal person and not a perv is just not a negative in any race (except San Francisco).
Yes, but there's a larger political picture here. To begin with, even if people "do not approve" of things like gay pride parades, they're really not all that exercised about homosexuality as an abstract behavior (which is how most people see and experience it).
More to the point, the problem with being marked as "opposing the gay agenda" is that it sends out a lot of other danger signals (e.g., "religious rightist") to moderate Democrats and moderate-to-liberal independents, among whom (in heavily Democrat New York) Paladino will have to find his winning margin.
Paladino was doing pretty well when he was bashing Cuomo on financial matters, where Paladino is strong, and Cuomo is weak.
By contrast, starting a "gay agenda" fight plays right into Cuomo's hands. Cuomo and his allies in the NY media now control the agenda for the next couple of weeks.
Not anymore, it's not. Paladino has made sure of that.
The part that says, "Hey, folks -- just kidding, I didn't really want to win this election after all!!!"
