But it means that George will exert himself for a distant Christian minority being slaughtered by Muslims. I think that speaks well for him. I think that ‘true believers’ of Liberal faith actually think that Liberals are by definition above bigotry (religious or racial). It appears that George is moved by the plight of these people regardless of their race or religion, as any decent person should be, but he can’t understand his peer liberals - why won’t they help? He’s spent his life hearing something that isn’t true (Liberals=ultimate compassion; Conservatives=ultimate greed) and in trying to apply it to what he is experience doesn’t work. I don’t really blame him for that. But he’s going to have to keep running into that wall trying to help the Sudan until he changes his world view. His reputation, fame, connections all labor to keep him believing something that isn’t true and what he really wants to do, can’t be done unless he changes his world view. I wonder if he has tried partnering his charity efforts with churches who send missionaries to those areas? There are always those willing to risk their lives to bring education, medicine, clean water...and yes...sometimes faith!...to the most dangerous forsaken parts of the world. This would probably be offensive to George - I believe he thinks Christians are the enemy. But...as long as he still breathes and is willing to fight for those people - there’s hope he can look outside his world view and make the connection. I shudder to think how his peers would treat him but I am rooting for him. And will remember to pray for the tormented souls in the Sudan.
