Libertarians: Still In Search Of Their Perfect World. Practically Irrelevant.
Liberty Pundits ^ | 17 October 2010 | Melissa Clouthier

Posted on 10/18/2010 9:10:24 AM PDT by Titus Quinctius Cincinnatus

I have come to believe that Libertarians are worthless. Before them, a crop of wonderful, small government candidates sit and will likely win–scores of points of optimism in a political sky that has been bleak and black. To coin a word from the opposition, there’s Hope.

Now, most of us watching this election realize that the exhausting work over the last two years has hardly begun. Once this new crop become part of the system, they’ll have to be watched and held accountable.

The most optimistic change, then, hasn’t really been these candidates. It’s been the heart of the American people. Citizens have decided that they’ve sat on their duffs long enough. It’s time to get involved. It’s time to stay involved.

The candidates aren’t perfect. No politicians are perfect. Hells bells. They’re human and mere vessels for the expression of the voters’ will.

So, I read Doug Mataconis’ piece about why Libertarians are still disenchanted even with the best electoral hope in a generation presents itself. I feel absolute disgust.

Kvetching about the social issues of a Christine O’Donnell while ignoring the economic liberties that Mike Castle would have assuredly stripped had he had his way makes no sense. How on earth can a true Libertarian even worry about such irrelevance?

What does democracy have to do with the Democratic Party?

What does democracy have to do with the discussion?

Where’s the photo of the bunny with the pancake on its head?

We’ll suspend inferential logic in your presence to avoid confusion.

For issues the libertarians say are non-issues, they defend them loudly and often. While slamming actual conservatives with dishonest “debate” tactics. Invariably. You and I and others here could write their comments before they make them.

My spineless attack, "Einstein"?

Go read a book, Forrest.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

Nope. Everybody else got it.

Have a nice day.

The typical saw is that libertarians are all for laws that protect the individual against "force or fraud."

Libertarians are typically against any laws, especially those which are most moral in nature. They want limited government only so that they can engage in any immoral behavior they want with no consequences.

That is what's going to result in anarchy.

Libertines extol vice. Libertarians just don't think it is up to government to put a gun in your face to stop you from self destructing. Pretty big difference you are deliberately mischaracterizing.

No difference. Conservatives don't particularly care if someone SELF-Destructs. They do care if someone destroys society in their quest to do so, and that's were libertarians are dangerous.

They make like they're conservative, but hardly. Agreeing with conservatives on limited government does NOT make them conservative. They are liberal through and through and are only interested in limited government for license for immorality, not for personal liberty in a moral society.

Their end is a liberal society. That makes them liberals, not conservatives.

And Reagan never made mention libertarianism, or libertarian principles in our political heritage. That never happened. If you read any of his speeches, and see that you should tear that page out. It’s a lie.

tl will never directly answer a question. All he ever does to debate is ask other’s questions and deflect attention away from himself.

He doesn’t ever really debate. He just provokes.

I know what his tactics are. He trolls threads in order to inflame and start fights. I’ve never seen him give an opinion.

I’ve read what he said.

Obviously he wouldn’t go for the LP platform they have today. And he didn’t accept the LP platform in those days, either. Liked some of it. Just as I like some of it.

I’m not lying.
