JASPER, Ind. -- A heartwarming story from southern Indiana showcased the selflessness of a coach and his players who allowed a dream to come true for an 18-year-old man who has Down Syndrome...

Great story but i hope the other coach wasn’t just using this kid to humiliate his own team.
Well, you did it, you went and got me a little choked up. Heart warming.
Really makes me shudder to think of the darkness in the hearts of liberals who said Trig should be murdered. Guess they think all their false virtue evens things out.
I assume you didn't read the story or watch the video. If you had, you would have never made such an idiotic statement.

Zack Beckman (middle), along with his mother and (I think) the Jasper coach.
I don’t know about stories like this. You want to do something like this, fine, do it and keep your mouth shut- goodness is its own reward. Why not just let the kid run it a few times, hear his name and number called on the loudspeaker and enjoy his moment in the sun. These touchdown runs seem patronizing and a bit too self-congratulatory for the coaches involved. I don’t know the functioning level of this young man, but it might end up doing more harm than good.
You have got to be kiddin’....
Yea OK then.
I hear what your saying and i know what i’m saying.
This “COACH” should be fired.
I didn’t see the “WINNING” team put out their Rudy.
I didnt see the WINNING team OFFER TO put out their Rudy.
No, I’m not kidding. I think it’s demeaning to believe these Downs Syndrome kids don’t know what’s going on. I grew up with some kids with Downs and the idea they’re all morons is insulting. No one with any kind of self awareness wants something just handed to them out of pity. Let the kid play a few downs every game or so. Let him know what it’s like to get hit and dirty. Not only will it build his own self-respect, but he’ll earn the respect of his teammates, as well. I guess I just have a little more faith in the human spirit than you.
Yeah, by God. High school athletics is about winning at all costs, not building character or letting some special kid have a moment of glory.
I doubt you have more faith.....Just a jaundiced view....
How did I know that people like you would show up???
If the idea some Downs Syndrome kids have the ability to understand and appreciate their accomplishments is somehow jaundiced, then it’s a truly sad world.
We had a kid that had some severe mental disability, it wasn’t Downs but something similar. He was one heck of a Football player, hit like a ton of bricks. He played special teams on Varsity and got a lot of time on defense for the JV team. Only thing that kept him from starting on Varsity was he couldn’t learn the plays. He was just as much a part of the team as anyone, somebody got him to every single party we had. #31 Eric
C’mon man....
This is the exact same reason we now have B. Hussein Obama as president.
Again, i did not read of the winning coach offering to put Zach on the field.
Why not?
And to the other poster, YES High school athletics is about winning.
That is how you build charachter, the rest comes later.
BTW, the kid's team DID win. They were winning by three touchdowns with 2:43 left in the game when he scored.
His team had possession of the ball.
The other team knew it was losing. The other team simply had to run the clock out.
So they let the kid score. They did not lose an entire game for the kid's sake. They just let him score a touchdown in a game they were 3-4 plays away from losing anyway.
Very harmless. A win for the kid. And if anything, the winning team got one touch down they never would have gotten.
And on top of it, I believe American culture will still survive.
