CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The mother of the teen who allegedly planted a pen bomb at his school Monday morning surrendered to police Wednesday morning, and she is now being held at the same jail with her son.

On Tuesday, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department issued an arrest warrant for malicious use of explosives, and possession of weapons of mass destruction against the teen's mother, Tracy Bauguess. She is being held at the Mecklenburg County Jail without bond.

Tracy Bauguesses' 16-year-old son, Jessie, has been charged with five felony charges and he is being held on a $500,000 bond after a pen exploded Monday morning at Turning Point Academy.

Look at the young gentleman's picture in the article. Although I've not seen any mention of it, I wonder if he could be undergoing a conversion to the ROP.

If you read the article, there's an implication to that...

Appears he is 16, in reform school for threatening to bomb schools, and sporting a full Moo beard,... he must be Hindu.

Gorman said one of the things officials are considering is not allowing students at the school to use pens.

Oh, good grief.

And yes, the perp does have that militant ROP-er look about him...

“Turning Point Academy is an alternative school within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District for students who have experienced disciplinary problems at other CMS schools.

It is the 6th CMS school that Bauguess has attended. Previous schools include Pawtucket Elementary School, Westerly Hills Elementary School, Paw Creek Elementary School, Couldwood Middle School, and Vance High School, which he attended last year as a freshman.

One of Jessie Bauguesses’ classmates said Bauguess was sent to Turning Point Academy because he had previously threatened to blow up schools.”

When I went to elementary school in Concord, this kids were sent to Jackson Reformatory for Boys. They didn’t get to go home until they graduated. Nice looking family BTW.

Aye, some boys start losing their hair at a very young age...my son did.

It really bothered him and when he finally shaved it smooth, he looked younger.

My son wasn’t fat like this boy, though.

Tracy Bauguesses' 16-year-old son

Eeesh. The last editor forgot to turn out the lights when he left the building.

The singular possessive of Baugess is not Baugesses'.

“TATP ain’t kid stuff!”

Didn’t know about it in my school days.
Only used nitrogen triodide.

According to the CMPD, the explosive in which Jessie Bauguess used is called triacetone triperoxide (TATP).

Islamic militants refer to triacetone triperoxide as the “Mother of Satan”, and it is same compound in which shoe bomber Richard Reid used in his attempt to blow up a US plane.

“TATP ain’t kid stuff!”

It sure ain’t... but it’s so easy to make, it looks like the kid cooked up a whole batch in his house:

“Police said the explosive - triacetone triperoxide (TATP) - is extremely potent and unsafe, they found a large quantity of the explosive inside the home. “

My efforts were restricted to trying to make black powder, none of which worked very well. I solved half the puzzle in high school when I decided to measure the ingredients by weight, not volume. The other piece of the puzzle eluded me until I did a lot of cooking with Kingsford charcoal and later burned a great deal of waste wood on my property. I was surprised to see the charcoal produced far more ash than many times as much wood. Then the Food Channel did a special on how Kingsford made their product, which disclosed that there was a lot of filler and coal dust in it. I had an epiphany: I’d needed to use real charcoal instead of the Kingsford stuff to get my formula to work. However, being a lot older now and neither needing nor wanting homemade black powder, I’ve refrained from putting my discovery to work.

From the article:

[Superintendent Peter] Gorman said one of the things officials are considering is not allowing students at the school to use pens.

Bureaucracies will never, ever go to the root of the problem.

If you make a lot of it it isn’t just an experiment anymore. He had big plans.
