cat fish that were as big as Volkswagen’s..

There are some biggies in Mid-West resevoirs. Been a few years, but a young boy water skiing behind his dad’s boat, was getting pulled under. A catfish had it’s mouth around the boy’s legs. He survived to tell the tale.
I love snapping turtle stories...big as car tires, pulled into small boats....

I had heard as a boy of giant catfish around the base of the Bagnell dam which impounds the Osage river creating the Lake of the Ozarks. Not certain why they’d be near the base of the dam unless it would be a superior food source.

So, the catfish (normally just a scavenger), swallowed the water skis before getting to the boy's legs?
Now I know why they call them "fish stories" ... they smell ... bad.

When I was in 2nd grade and lived at Fort Hood, a friend and I caught a massive alligator snapping turtle in the creek behind our housing area. It was a case of, "now that we caught it, what do we do next?"

Matt's dad helped us get it up to the house, where a game warden came and picked it up. The game warden said that it was the largest turtle he'd ever seen in his career. He took it out to the back end of Fort Hood and released it in an isolated pond so that it could live the rest of its life in peace.

When I was a kid on vacation in NE Texas I saw them bring a snapper in as big as a truck tire. It practically filled the bed of a pick up truck.
