I am pretty sure piranha live in South America. Tiger fish live in Africa and look absolutely nothing like a piranha. They look like a stripped bass with an attitude. I have caught quite a few Tigers on the Zambezi and Angua rivers in Zimbabwe. They are fantastic fighters and are extremely smart. On the first cast it looks like several torpedoes are coming for the lure and then there is an explosion as the first fish smashes the lure. They dive deep and then erupt from the water like a cross between a striped bass and a bluefish. Second cast a couple of fish chase it and they completely ignore the third cast. Change lures and it starts all over again. After you catch about 4 or 5 fish you have to move because they are educated. Plus the crocs have figured out where you are and the commotion has pissed off the hippos.

I was fishing a deep hole in a otherwise dry river and after the 3rd catch a hippo slowly arose from the depths and blew mist all over me. Pretty nerve wracking since I did not think there was enough water to hide a hippo. I was surprised the tiger fish did not eat him.

I don’t know how you had the nads to sit there and fish that. I was on a river in Kruger while taking a short break from work in Louis Trichardt and given the crocs, hippos, occasional elephant and various other more than lethal creatures, I decided to stay in the truck. Was awesome to see though. I love Africa.
