Grass fed beef is much healthier, high in Omega 3s, etc. It is also much costlier...you need more land per animal. Butter from grass fed cows is $6.50 per pound.

Supply and demand. Back in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, grass fed beef was less expensive; everyone wanted the “well marbled” steaks.

They really don’t need more land. They live on the same amount of land regardless of how they’re finished (more in the dry west and less in the east). I live in the east and paid less than $3/lb for my grass fed beef.

Grass fed beef doesn’t come from the same cows as grass fed butter and cheese. I’d guess it’s much more labor intensive and probably why it’s more expensive.
