Where were the budgets?

They didn't have any, at least not for the first series. The second never got network backing.

Look, I won't defend Gene Roddenberry on his plotting. His vision quite frankly was one of the Marxist dialectic working to produce a socialist utopia, which will never happen and for good reasons should never happen. That said, I am such a science fiction and space geek I still watched them all and loved every minute.

One would have to see Roddenberry in the context of the 60’s counter culture era. He dealt with many issues and even if they were Left-leaning, they were imaginative. I have not been able to find much interest in the modern Star Trek movies or series’. Just as I find it difficult to find interest in the “Yes we can” folks, it is interesting to watch the President fall into his own devices and logic - much like NOMAD himself. The question is: will we be able to jettison NOMAD-O away from this country in time before he performs the primary directive and self-destructs?
