National Football League Backs Reid Over Angle; Invests $340,000 to Save Incumbent Congress

The National Football League’s political action committee—Gridiron PAC—has weighed in on the hotly contested U.S. Senate election in Nevada that pits conservative Republican challenger Sharron Angle against Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid.

The PAC has given $10,000 to Reid—the maximum it can give in a single election cycle—and no money to Angle, according to Federal Election Commission data compiled by OpenSecrets.org.

The NFL’s PAC also contributed to other incumbent Democratic senators facing viable challengers this year, giving $5,000 to Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas; $5,000 to Russ Feingold of Wisconsin; $5,000 to Barbara Boxer of California; $5,000 to Michael Bennet of Colorado; and $5,000 to Patty Murray of Washington.

In none of these races did the NFL’s PAC contribute to the Republican challenger.

Of the $341,000 the NFL’s PAC has contributed to congressional candidates in this election cycle, $340,000 has gone to incumbents. The other $1,000 went to Brian Rooney, an unsuccessful Republican primary candidate in a U.S. congressional district in Michigan, who is the grandson of Pittsburgh Steelers founder Art Rooney.

Hmmmm... I wonder if this behavior is in alignment with the 32 teams’s season ticket holders? /s

Sure. Now try and defend the late Ted Kennedy for killing Mary Jo.

Or maybe you can give us a touching story about OJ Simpson after he slit his wife's throat.

They were probably "not the exact same guys" afterwards, right?

The last Super Bowl I watched was San Francisco-Cincinnati.

Which one? 1982 or 1989?

Sounds like they are doing pretty much the same thing as those pukes at the NRA!

Likewise the VFW PAC.
“WE” put so much pressure on VFW that they officially distanced themselves from the VFW PAC and told them to ‘cease and desist’.
I will really ‘believe’ it when I see a COMPLETE retraction in the next VFW magazine.

Since Jerry “the jerk” Jones killed the Cowboys, I’ve quit watching the thing entirely. It’s never on at our house.

AFAIC, the NFL does not belong in politics. I’ll do my best never to spend a cent that benefits the NFL in the future.

I have a DVR so I’ll just tape a couple of extra college games and watch them on Sunday instead of the NFL.

And I’ll stick to watching NASCAR on Sundays too.

The wishbone went away because the NFl continued to view it as disruptive technology; nobody ever figured it out or solved it. You still have to be able to throw the ball well enough to back defenses out of nine and ten man fronts but Alabama learned to do that and the Naval Academy seems able to do that and they blew a major college football team out of a bowl game last winter, which is theoretically impossible. Navy is basically playing Bear Bryant’s vision of the wishbone with the two halfbacks close to the line to act like flankers on pass plays and the triple option looking a bit like an end around. It’s the only situation I’ve ever seen where an amateur version of a sport outgrew the pro version.

As the son of a Canadian mother, I've never found the reference funny. Yes, I know the origins of it; poor tippers and generally bad customers in restaurants who happen to be black. But there are far more "deserving" nationalities that should be slurred. You have no idea how many Canadians and Americans of Canadian descent live here.
