Because they wanted power, and the minority party has very little of it in the House. There is far more money to be made as a K Street lobbyist than as a minority member in the House.
Well, these Democrats are hopeful that they will keep control of the House after Tuesday’s election results. That’s why they are running for re-election, because they don’t know what the result will be.
So if Dems. somehow keep control, these Democrat leaders will stay. If Republicans take back control, then these Democrat leaders could take their balls and go home.
Once you have been Speaker, it’s hard to go back to being just another congresswoman. Nancy might just quit rather than go back to lesser status.
