The French aircraft carrier which is set to play a key role in defending Britain over the next decade has broken down. As President Nicolas Sarkozy prepares to use a London summit this week to announce that RAF jets will fly from the carrier Charles de Gaulle, his naval chiefs have told him that she is no longer seaworthy. ‘She is meant to be heading to Afghanistan but is instead in her home port with a faulty propulsion system,’ said a French Navy source.

“Did they check the below deck screen door?”

Simple fix...use the white flags to cover the screen doors. Problem solved.

Is this the same one that lost its screw on the initial sea trials...and then later discovered that the flight deck had to be extended before the planes assigned could land?

If I remember correctly, a screw(propeller) fell off her while under way a few years ago too.
No warm fuzzy feeling about her from my point of view!

What threat would the Brits face over the next ten years that would require them to have their aircraft on a French carrier? I highly doubt the Russians will want to play in the next 10 years. If I were the British MoD I would shelve this plan and just invest in more air force aircraft, and put what money is left into the submarines that are still working.

First off...the washing machines (who knew the French navy washed their clothes) make so much noise through vibration that the acoustic signature is easily detected by hostile submarines.

Second....the reinforced bullet proof windows in the tower have frosted ....so they can't see where they are going even if they knew.

finally the carrier fleet is accompanied 24/7 but several tug boats.

What it was made in China or Russia. Put it in water and this ship will disintegrate in 6 months. The French Navy, not to good anymore. Probably launches a plane and the ship goes backards for 12 miles.

I have a great idea, France can give it to Obama. Obama will rename it the USS Obama. He is really angry that there are aircraft carriers named after many people except him. Gee he wants the Native Americans in South Dakota to give him land so he can have a Monument dedicated to him that overshadows Mount Rushmore and that Indian Chief to. S

To be fair, the deck was lengthened to accommodate a newer version of the P3 Orion or AWACS, can't quite remember. I believe the extra space was needed to turn it around, not necessarily for landing, but to clear the deck in a timely fashion.

Oh, and that French company that made the propellers - it had a mysterious fire that destroyed a lot of the paperwork after investigations were announce...

SONOBUOY PING!

Click on pic for past Navair pings.

Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.

“it had a mysterious fire that destroyed a lot of the paperwork after investigations were announce...”

Kind of reminds me of the fire last August down in Houston that destroyed all the voting records from the electronic voting machines right after it was discovered that SCIU/Acorn had registered over 20,000 fake voters. For some reason the fire alarm and sprinklers didn't work.

Re: our previous discussion.

Of course, coming to our aid presupposes the ability to get there...

I like the French. I owe them a great deal. If they hadn't thrown my family out in the 17th century, I might have been born there!

I don't depend on them.
