A visit to any former commie country answers the question, no commentary required. The only reason the academics and pols here are all about communism is they’ve never seen it up close nor have been the object of its attentions. Its either by stupidity or malice that they push it.

I have first hand experience w/ RO and can say it will take at least a generation to completely throw communism off. The young kids get it, none of them want to be commies.

“Why Has Communism Failed?”

The real question is: Why does Communism fail and get resurrected, again and again, only to fail again and again and why do so many people forget the piles of dead bodies left behind by Communist swine?

IMHO

“As I see it, Communism is an ideological cover for a criminal enterprise which steals from the people to feed its own greed.”

Exactly. And it depends on ignorant people.

“It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker, that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest. We address ourselves, not to their humanity, but to their self-love, and never talk to them of our own necessities but of their advantages. Nobody but a beggar chuses to depend chiefly upon the benevolence of his fellow citizens.”

Adam Smith, The Wealth of Nations, vol.1, p.16

He was EXACTLY correct!

Communism, Socialism, National Socialism, Maoism, Stalinism, Tito's version of socialism, Cuba's/Castro's version of socialism.......... all of these “ism's” that centralize are all the same. I've been saying this for two decades but now some expert wrote a book on it. :)

Why they fail?

**** The forces of economics and human nature are omnipresent, some simply choose to ignore them.

All of these centralized thinking forms of running an economy, society, and national government eventually smash up against reality. Eventually the reality of human nature and the forces that really drive an economy grind all of these forms of state controlled economies into dust. People are corrupt, power hungry, lazy, sexual, shortsighted and greedy. Capitalism exploits human nature for society and the nations benefit. Likewise in a centralized economy you end up loosing innovation, initiative, culpability, service, choice, pride and ownership. What you end up with is what all other government programs in this country have always become, a good example is the VA, Social Security, nearly any city public tranit system........ Capitalism pushes for maximum efficiency, drives innovation and punishes corruption and stagnation.

People advocate socialism because they are naive and idealistic, unless they are a sociopath like Hitler, Stalin, Mao. Those that follow the road to socialism, like those that bought into this national health care reform (until they read the small print!) is the great lie, a free lunch. But eventually “reality” sets in and once people really see the consequences, once they feel what it really means to have a social health care plan, they won't like it, and that's where we're at today.

I prefer “free enterprise”. “Capitalism” is a pejorative term used by communists.

Because people like owning things, getting rewarded for innovation and hard work, taking good care of the things they own, and passing them on to their posterity.

Such a system is better for the people, AND the things they own.

Nothing gets abused quite as much as something that is common property. No incentive at all to take care of it. No incentive for innovation or hard work. Economically a command economy leads to idiocy like feeding bread to pigs.

“We pretend to work, and they pretend to pay us.” A Russian explains how Communism works, or more accurately, why it doesn't actually work and how they don't actually get paid.

Genesis ch 1-3 is metaphorical... The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil is a metaphorical operator.. a word picture worth 10,000 words.. as are the other operators..

Making it literal is making it a cartoon.. when the lessons taught are deep..

Because it runs out of other peoples money..

Because people don't behave. The same reason no Utopian Idea will never work.

Because it's a fantasy based on falsehoods.

Fundamentally, it's a violation of the basic laws of thermodynamics.

Systems tend toward chaos unless energy is added. Collectivism is effectively a heat pump, pulling energy out of the system instead of putting energy in, until the entire system implodes in a chaotic collapse.

Not to mention it runs counter to every aspect of human psychology. It is, literally, a classic mental disorder.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

Those are assertions of yours,
without any basis besides human opinion.

If there is another scripture, say, something Jesus said,
that refers to Genesis as “metaphorical”, I’d glady read it.

Otherwise, the “metaphorical” assertion is nothing but human vanity.

What’s your “ultimate” authority by which you judge scripture?
If it’s not scripture itself, then scripture is not your ultimate authority, your own “reason” is your ultimate authority. Read Gen 3:4 again after letting that soak in.

“We pretend to work, and they pretend to pay us.”

Possibly the most concise definition going.

As duped Utopian idealists who become trapped in a Communist society finally come to learn, they are slaves forced to work at gunpoint with no escape.

"...These two world views [Christian theism vs naturalist, impersonal matter or energy shaped by impersonal chance] stand as totals in complete antithesis to each other in content and also in their natural results--including sociological and governmental results, and specifically including law.

It is not that these two world views are different only in how they understand the nature of reality and existence. They also inevitably produce totally different results. The operative word here is inevitably. It is not just that they happen to produce different results, but it is absolutely inevitable that they will bring forth different results..."

Per Jane Fonda Communism failed because we have not embraced it.

In a perfect world with perfect people who only thought of others and never of themselves, communism would be ideal.

You are thinking of socialism. Communism fails because of too much centralization.

Good article.

However, what we are seeing in this country today, actually has more in common with 1930’s Italian Fascism then Communism.

Your ultimate authority is yourself, then. It’s good that you admit that. You put yourself in the place of God.

Gen 3:5
...you will be like God, knowing good and evil
