A South Florida homeowner warded off a would-be teen burglar Monday afternoon.

Miami-Dade police say the homeowner confronted a potential burglar Monday afternoon by shooting him twice sending the juvenile to the hospital. The teen was shot in the leg and was taken to Miami Children's Hospital. The teen is expected to survive.

Police say the events that led to the shooting began shortly before 2 p.m. on the 26200 block of Southwest 128th Court in Cutler Bay.

That's when the homeowner heard a noise and armed himself with a gun. He was confronted by two juveniles and told police that he feared for his life and opened fire twice, striking one of the two male teens.

Police say they were able to arrest all three suspected burglars. One of the juveniles, police said, was not within earshot of the homeowner because he was serving as a lookout.

Now we'll find out if Florida law permits lethal force in defense of ones property.

I'd like to see the NRA help out here if the homeowner needs to mount a costly legal defense. The NRA has wasted my dues financing Democrat political campaigns long enough.

“That’s when the homeowner heard a noise and armed himself with a gun. He was confronted by two juveniles and told police that he feared for his life and opened fire twice, striking one of the two male teens.”

I rate this comment by the homeowner a ten ring...his markmenship not so good, perhaps a 6 ring.

The newstwit can say “teen” and “juvenile” and “child” all she wants. It’s not going to make me feel sorry for the *criminal*.

But they were all honor students, and they loved children and cute little animals, and they went to church regularly.

It’s Bush’s fault they couldn’t find jobs, so they did what they had to do to put food on their tables.

Please, Barack, send them a check!

Nitpicking here...but how can you be a would be teen? You are either a teen or you are not. Seems this might be better if it was a teen, would be burglar...or a teen-aged would be burglar or a would be burglar who happens to be a teenager.

Why were they out on a school night?

The story said 2:00 p.m. They must have skipped school.

It’s a psychological problem to shoot a criminal who is technically a juvenile—but at the same time, it is essential that if you must, you must do so quickly, because they can move very quickly, are full of adrenaline, and can often be more willing to kill than adults.

As the saying goes, “stupid yet capable is a bad combination.”

Oddly enough, it takes some level of maturity so that when faced with a “fight or flight” situation, to know when flight is a better option. Young males burglarizing a house and coming across an unarmed occupant will sometimes choose to try and kill them, even when they could just leave. If the occupant is armed, they assume that there will be a shoot out, and start blazing away.

This puts you in a tricky situation, but as the saying goes, “It is better to be tried by twelve...”
