I know there are races still pending - but does anyone have an exact number at to how many U.S. House Seats were won by Republicans in last night’s election - as of right now?

Same for the Senate.

I have searched all over the web and cannot find number.

Anyone know?

I checked out the interactive MSNBC election results page a few minutes ago.

As of now, the GOP has picked up 5 seats in the Senate, with three still undecided. This may include the Alaska seat where the GOP will almost certainly win -- with either "Republican" Miller or "Write-In" Murkowski coming out on top.

The GOP has picked up 61 House seats, with 11 still undecided.

There are even more victories at the state level for the Republican Party. Ohio and Wisconsin, for example, were devastating losses from top to bottom for the Democrats.

What's also interesting about the 2010 isn't just the number of Republicans who have won . . . it's the TYPE of Republicans who have won. Having a guy like Marco Rubio beat Charlie Crist in Florida, and having Pat Toomey beat Joe Sestak for Arlen Specter's old seat in Pennsylvania, is a very big deal.

I'm also pleased to see so many political neophytes do well this year -- especially a number of retired medical doctors who won their House races.

I think it very telling that in the past, the MEDIA was calling 'counts' on these elections with as plus or minus figure for the unresolved races at midnight on Tuesday, and they were headlines on the next morning's Issue. On the internet it would have been there at 12:01.

Now, as you mention, no one seems to know or want to say. (in the Media)
