To: Prince of Space

Transcription in a hospital as always been a department that is sent to 3rd party and then brought back in house. I did biomedical work in the medical field for 12+ years and know what you are saying.

They've always sent out overflow but just recently to companies who offshore to India. The problem is, however, that they leased a system from Dictaphone 3 years ago; well the lease is up and Dictaphone convinced them it would be more cost productive to sign another lease and allow one of their satellite companies, Nuance/Focus Infomatics, do ALL of their dictation.

Nuance offered us jobs at HALF the money we were making, double the insurance premiums, and 5 whole days of vacation. They also told us all dictation in India would be done in their secure high-tech offices. Well, they lied. They employ Indian MTs who work in their homes, and surprise, surprise, they don't have HIPAA laws in India. I wonder how long it will be before the first information breach occurs.
