Sen. Patty Murray wins fourth term (Seattle Times calls it for Murray)
The Seattle Times ^ | 11/04/10 | Jim Brunner

Posted on 11/04/2010 6:04:41 PM PDT by TonyInOhio

Sen. Patty Murray has won a fourth term, riding a wave of strong Democratic support in King County to defeat Republican challenger Dino Rossi.

As of Thursday evening, Murray was leading Rossi by more than 45,000 votes, taking 51 percent to Rossi's 49 percent. That's up from a 14,000-vote lead on Election Day.

According to a Seattle Times analysis, Rossi would need to get about 54 percent of the estimated 591,000 uncounted ballots statewide to overcome Murray's lead.

But nearly 264,000 of those ballots are in King County. Murray's already commanding lead there has only expanded since Election Day. She took 68 percent of the 69,000 King County ballots counted Thursday.

To overcome King County's heavy support for Murray, Rossi would have to take about two-thirds of the remaining ballots in the rest of the state. So far he's received 53.2 percent of those non-King County votes.

That makes Rossi's task virtually impossible, even though hundreds of thousands of ballots remain to be counted statewide.

That’s a great post.

Funny how the founders didn’t contemplate the direct election of Senators.

I fear that the Seattle/Tacoma/Everett urban area is on the road to becoming another Detroit. I’ve heard the libs around here complain bitterly about jobs and the economy...they even had enough sense to soundly reject a state income tax this go around.

But vote for a Republican? They’d rather watch the place fall apart than do that.

It’s a beautiful area, but the wife and I are seriously talking about moving away before the decay really sets in.

We’re in the suburbs, and I had to drive past a bunch of “Impeach Bush” signs before Obozo got elected. Now, you don’t see as many Obozo bumper stickers as before, like even the latte slurping libs know that’s kind of silly looking in this sick economy, but the minute a Republican gets elected, they’ll howl for blood and “justice”.

Eastern Washington is a pretty conservative area with much more in common with Idaho than the west side of the state. We don’t call it the dark side just because it rains so much.

It is very deflating for us on this side of the state because it seems that no matter how we vote the rats always get the numbers they need out of King County.

I like Rossi but agree with others that he ran a relatively lackluster campaign. Murray is an embarassment.

I’m curious if there is any way to quantify the number of votes Rossi lost or gained when Clint Didier refused to endorse him.

I was wrong - Rossi conceded:

UGH!! What a wipeout except for Jamie Herrera in WA3 and I suppose Koster still has a fighting chance - but is down. Dino could have at least waited a few more days...

‘he can’t challenge if he concedes!!!’

He could un-concede - but then he’s following Gore’s precedent..argh. He already condeded.

i know he conceded that is why I am mad!!!!!!! I wish the Republican party hadn’t ask him into the primary... They didn’t want the Tea Party candidate. Of course we have open primaries here and the Dems can cross over and vote for the candidate they want to run against!

Yes...I was really disappointed when I heard the news.
Not ALL Washingtonians get what they deserve...some voted the RIGHT way.

As it stands...I’m hoping that big 9.0 they’ve been predicting for years hits right smack under Seattle and utterly lays waste to everything. I don’t even care if the place gets nuked by a terrorist bomb. The ‘People’s Republic of Seattle” needs to just go away.

Yes - I’ve been here since ‘93. Was nice to be on the winning side of the vote for some things. And yes - go figure on the propositions vs. candidates.

Propositions against higher taxes win.
Candidates FOR higher taxes win.

Yeah - Pierce County here - I was very happy to see the state income tax intitative fail and I’m sorry but not surprised the more retarded of the two retarded WA senators “won”, but Rossi was the wrong opponent. It would have been better to put another chick up against Patty, one with fire in the belly and any semblence of the brain Patty Murray sorely lacks.

“They didn’t want the Tea Party candidate.”

Do you think Didier would have beaten Murray? His campaign would have been more spirited, that’s for sure...but I just don’t know about him...

There is definitely a pattern here and should not be overlooked.

What is going to be really interesting to watch is how well the Tea Party team and the old GOP team are going to cooperate relative to dealing with the dems. I wonder how either group plans to reconcile more jobs with less spending and less government.

I didn’t say that what I said was the republican party didn’t want the Tea Party candidate. What I am saying is that Dino Rossi has been down this road before.. He didn’t need to campaign in Eastern Washington and should have spent his whole time in the Puget Sound area.. Also I think Clint Didier would have been tougher on Murray. Dino is I’m the nice guy I can get along with everybody... I can work across the isle..

After we go belly up, and its official, maybe we could just give Washington to the Chinese to resolve our debt.

Maybe toss in California for another trillion.

I bet they would deal with the Mexican invasion a little differently.

NY, maybe we can get a few bucks for that too. They would probably want it cleared out first. Half the population refuses to work and demands a paycheck for sitting on their ass. So some other state would have to volunteer to take them. Maybe Main?

If Washington votes for Murray, they should get what they deserve.

Any Defense dollars should be removed from that state. All bases closed.

For every tax dollar they send in, they should get 2 cents back.

The city ballots... straggling along at the end... once again are the difference. Noticed in PA, the Philly votes were tabulated first, and lo and behold, PA has a new GOP Senator and Governor. Amazing, isn`t it? But when the cities report last, it seems the dem wins. Of COURSE, it`d have nothing to do with fraud, right? nahhhhhhh....

It was within the margin of fraud. We need to win by more than 3%.

It will be fun to watch the new congress defund the leftist coast. They will die a slow socialist death.
