Sen. Patty Murray wins fourth term (Seattle Times calls it for Murray)
The Seattle Times ^ | 11/04/10 | Jim Brunner

Sen. Patty Murray has won a fourth term, riding a wave of strong Democratic support in King County to defeat Republican challenger Dino Rossi.

As of Thursday evening, Murray was leading Rossi by more than 45,000 votes, taking 51 percent to Rossi's 49 percent. That's up from a 14,000-vote lead on Election Day.

According to a Seattle Times analysis, Rossi would need to get about 54 percent of the estimated 591,000 uncounted ballots statewide to overcome Murray's lead.

But nearly 264,000 of those ballots are in King County. Murray's already commanding lead there has only expanded since Election Day. She took 68 percent of the 69,000 King County ballots counted Thursday.

To overcome King County's heavy support for Murray, Rossi would have to take about two-thirds of the remaining ballots in the rest of the state. So far he's received 53.2 percent of those non-King County votes.

That makes Rossi's task virtually impossible, even though hundreds of thousands of ballots remain to be counted statewide.

Gore conceded to Bush in 2000. He withdrew his concession and challenged Bush after the Florida recount went into play. So, I guess, conceding doesn't have any meaning if it comes from a RAT.

King County is as dirty as Cook County

Absolutely. They either have the absolutely best GOTV apparatus out there where the look over a voter's shoulder and collected the ballots on the spot a day or two before the election to push turnout in the county up to like 75% or they somehow managed figure out a way to cheat the vote-by-mail system.

All of these "new" votes were likely mailed the Monday or Tuesday before Election Day. The total King Co. number of ballots rose as the week went on, instead of falling steadily like in most of the other counties as they started counting ballots.

The problem is this vote by mail system will never change as long as the RATS are in charge. Washington is doomed.

wow, the Dumbest-Senator-not-named-Al-Franken gets another term

I’m speechless

liberals love to preen and sneer about how smart they are, but anyone who can vote for an airhead like Patsy Murray is not fit to play at adulthood

Given that the majority of our electorate chose Murray, WA deserves what it asked for. The rest of the country should be angered at this choice. Boycott WA.

Sen. Patty Murray has won a fourth term, riding a wave of strong Democratic support in King County to defeat Republican challenger Dino Rossi.

Why is it that close contests seem always to be won by the Democrats?

It seems like the voters in the inner cities have a vested interest in the Democratic ticket to ensure their bennies. Is this not a conflict of interest? ... a legal conflict of interest, I might add.

They win because they do the same thing Connecticut might win.

Bridgetport, CT is always the last city to report their results.

The states on the west coast are absolutely corrupt cesspools.

I can confirm this.

Washington deserved better than Dino Rossi. I’m sorry, he’s a nice guy, but a terrible. boring campaigner with no fire in his gut. He was a 2 time loser already, and now he’s made it 3.

Rossi's first state-side campaign wasn't bad. But the second and last time he was wooden -- way overtrained.

In politics he's done.

should Rossi choose to challenge these results (assuming that the Seattle Times is correct in their call)

Rossi conceded last night.

What in the world is wrong with the people on the Pacific Coast? Someone must put heroin in the water systems to produce a majority of people with such screwed up judgment. The rest of the nation has nothing in common with their unamerican attitudes which weaken the country.

There's liberalism all over. Try Austin TX.

WHY? Like NY/CA .. they deserve exactly what they vote for.

Except with U.S. senators and representatives, we ALL pay for their bad decisions.

The liberals show up in droves to vote along with the conservatives against initiative 1098 which would have established a state income tax - (65% voted NO) - yet these same liberals vote for a supporter of 1098.

America voted for Obama, they get what they deserve.

we didn’t get the Senate this time around (the odds were against us anyway), but... something to keep in mind, with the significant number of GOP victories in statehouses (up to 29, at last count), the possibility exists that nature itself may intervene during the next few years, changing the makeup of the Senate. Five democrat Senators in currently, or newly minted, red states are at age 70 or higher.

Here are the top five:

Frank Lautenberg, NJ — 86
Carl Levin, MI — 76
Herb Kohl, WI — 75
Tom Harkin, IA — 70
Harry Reid, NV — 70

Not that I directly wish death to any of them, I do think at least one or two will pass from the scene during the next few years, resulting in at least a temporary placement of a GOPer in his place.

Since Rossi is a 3 time loser and I’ve never lost a statewide race, I could show him how it should be done.
