Sen. Patty Murray wins fourth term (Seattle Times calls it for Murray)
The Seattle Times ^ | 11/04/10 | Jim Brunner

Sen. Patty Murray has won a fourth term, riding a wave of strong Democratic support in King County to defeat Republican challenger Dino Rossi.

As of Thursday evening, Murray was leading Rossi by more than 45,000 votes, taking 51 percent to Rossi's 49 percent. That's up from a 14,000-vote lead on Election Day.

According to a Seattle Times analysis, Rossi would need to get about 54 percent of the estimated 591,000 uncounted ballots statewide to overcome Murray's lead.

But nearly 264,000 of those ballots are in King County. Murray's already commanding lead there has only expanded since Election Day. She took 68 percent of the 69,000 King County ballots counted Thursday.

To overcome King County's heavy support for Murray, Rossi would have to take about two-thirds of the remaining ballots in the rest of the state. So far he's received 53.2 percent of those non-King County votes.

That makes Rossi's task virtually impossible, even though hundreds of thousands of ballots remain to be counted statewide.

I know how you feel. Here in Pa I was worried that we would get stuck with another Casey clone. That man makes rocks look smart. Now the local newspaper clowns are crying that because we lost Spectre we will lose federal dollars that he brought to the state.

Why did you not vote for measure 1100, which would have closed state operated liquor stores and would have significantly reduced the prices of adult beverages?

I thought Rossi’s key talking points were fine, and he defeated the retard in the debates. If you like the status quo, vote for the twit. If not, vote for me.

Rossi deserved better from this corrupt, brain-dead state.

The GOP House must not appropriate one thin dime for any Blue States that are bankrupt. Let them go to war with their own public service unions.

Yes...I was a little nervous on Toomey until one of the Freepers mentioned that Lancaster County hadn’t been counted...then I knew it was in the bag!

I live in York county, which outside of York itself is relatively conservative.

We took my daughter and her husband to breakfast last Sunday. My son in law said that Dino Rossi seemed “slimey” to him. I told him that his wife’s grandparents knew Dino Rossi and he is a very nice man. We had these non-stop horrible commercials, on the radio, TV and even calling our phones all day with Patty Murray basically calling Dino Rossi a slime bag. Many thirty year olds... like our kids actually fall for that kind of crap... and probably a lot of people old enough to know better also.

In Washington we have the two of the most pathetic Senators in the country. There is dumb and then there is Patty Murray dumb. I used to work with her brother on occassion. The poor guy is actually a conservative.

Then there is our other Senator, Maria Cantwell... My wife sometimes volunteers at the USO at SeaTac Airport. Sen. Cantwell’s body guards drag her up to the USO to keep her out of sight when she is too sloshed to stand without assistance. She is a lush. I don’t know how they keep her out of the sauce during campaign season. Someone should get a video of her after she has tipped back too many and put it on Youtube.

That’s the way these close races always seem to go. The red counties returns are tallied first, putting the conservative candidate in a big lead. You know where it goes from there. Funny how the absentee ballots only benefit the rat candidates.

William R. King, 13th Vice President, original namesake of King Co.

Martin L. King, revised namesake of King Co., effective 2005

Orwellian, isn't it?

There was so much give and take between the both of them I decided I didn't trust either of them.

I suspect the reason it didn't pass was because a lot of people felt the way I did.

I agree that it is sickening but if we could’t have the majority, even if we won, it doesn’t hurt our cause to have a true nut job like this and “don’t call me ma’am” Boxer to remind folks in other parts of the country what it means to be a liberal.

can there be at least one single time when a close race goes our way??? EVER??

Of course not. It's just like in Congress, when the vote doesn't go the way the Dems want it, they just keep up the arm twisting and bribing until, magically, their bill passes! I think we can safely assume that, in every race that was close, there was massive vote fraud. The only races not adversely affected were those with too wide a margin, like the Rand Paul race in Kentucky. Even there, fraudlent voting probably added at least 5% to the Democrat contender.

Rossi had the bad fortune to run against far left liberal women (Gregoire and Murray) who were never held accountable by the local media. Both of them have spent their adult lives taking money from hard working citizens and giving it to their core constituents......but Rossi was a gentleman and didn’t go after them in debates or in ads because he knew that he’d be branded as a “bully” (just like Ric Lazio against Hillary Clinton in the 2000 Senate race). He really had no chance - and even if he had, King County Elections would have found enough dead people to vote and give it to Patty anyway!

I am a life long Washington resident and this place changed dramatically in the 80s when all of the Californians moved in en masse....and the change was NOT for the better! Now, those of us who are conservative are just bidding our time until home values go back up and then we’ll sell up and go somewhere where our votes will actually count. King County is a broken, liberal cesspool and it runs the state-sadly!

Whatever. I said repeatedly it didn’t matter who they put up this state would be decided by King County. I fail to understand the ringing indictments, consternation or upset. That’s just how things are here.

Now for those of you who say we deserve it, well I’d advise you to consider unlike California we still can have a close state wide race. Up until this election PA wasn’t all that different from us. Slightly less resistent to the “R” label though and that is what makes the difference.

This state is slashed in half. Half liberal. Half conservative. We made some gains in the state Senate and legislatures. Picked up a few House seats. We defeated a huge tax increase. SO excuse us if we didn’t elect a US Senator but we weren’t quite the lost cause projected here.

I do agree it’s ridiculous to keep competing state wide when resources could go to a place like Nevada. I don’t agree we’re so lost everything should be abandoned. It’s just that if you really want to win here there is going to have to be a committment to register sympathetic conservatives that have never voted or find those registered who never show up. We’re close enough that if they committed to an intense voter drive under the radar of the democratic party we might be able to pull off an upset once in awhile that even fraud couldn’t take. Unless or until that happens they should reserve their efforts for intiatives house seats and local races.
