Sam Tanenhaus, editor of The New York Times Book Review and Week in Review, author of many books and articles including a January 2009 offering in The New Republic entitled Conservatism Is Dead -- An intellectual autopsy of the movement and its cleverly repackaged follow-up: The Death of Conservatism (which might have been subtitled "Same autopsy, more words") is clearly, as these credentials would suggest, a man of remarkable erudition and prescience.
Consider this forthright pronouncement in the 2009 article and ask yourself it's any coincidence the names "Tanenhaus" and "Nostradamus" are so similar.
What conservatives have yet to do is confront the large but inescapable truth that movement conservatism is exhausted and quite possibly dead.Truly eerie when someone reads your mail like that but before we proceed let's consider at least one conservatives attempt in the aftermath of the mid-term elections to confront the large but inescapable truth.

The people did not buy their swill for long.
Idiots!
I’ve always wondered why anyone would believe this in light of the number and source of the immigrants that enter this country every day. We have problems in the NYC area with increasing numbers of Muslims slaughtering goats in their bathtubs for some Muslim holiday, women walking around bound up like mummies because they are not allowed out otherwise (even in the workplace), arranged marriages and the related honor killings within the US, an ncreasing number of Latinos for whom women’s lib means nothing, and on the “American” side the failure of “gay marriage” on every ballot its been placed on, the (very) gradual roll-back of abortion, a tax revolt that isn’t going away any time soon.
Where in this would one read that conservatism is dead?

The only thing to remember about the True Believers with D’s behind their names. Which include all of the various leftists is that they ALWAYS go one step TO far.
That is their achilles heel.
Conservatism equates to constitutional government, property rights and liberty. If conservatism ever dies, its the end of the republic and the birth of tyranny.
This one sentence, quite by itself, should qualify Tanenhaus for a lifetime supply of the antidepressant of his choice.
This, to paraphrase Vonnegut, can only be the product of bad chemicals.
That's FUNNY !!!
Liberals have been saying this since the days of Aristotle. We see how that has worked out for them...
Then there’s Francis Fukuyama, who wrote the “End of History,” predicting that the world would become a boring utopia filled with peaceful, prosperous democracies.
How did that one work out?
“Conservatism equates to constitutional government, property rights and liberty. If conservatism ever dies, its the end of the republic and the birth of tyranny.”
I really like that as a summary. Good way to go to the heart of the matter.
