President Barack Obama said the political cost of overhauling the health care system turned out to be higher than he had expected. And he admits that he gets discouraged at times when dealing with the economy.
In an interview airing Sunday night on CBS' 60 Minutes, Obama said the health care system itself is huge and complicated and that changing it eluded previous presidents because it was so difficult.
"I made the decision to go ahead and do it, and it proved as costly politically as we expected probably actually a little more costly than we expected, politically," he said.
Obama said he thought that he would find common ground with Republicans by advancing health care proposals that had been introduced by Republican administrations as well as potential presidential candidate Mitt Romney when Romney was governor of Massachusetts.
"I couldn't get the kind of cooperation from Republicans that I had hoped for," he said. "And that was costly, partly because it created the kind of partisanship and bickering that really turn people off."
Obama said the danger of a second major recession is "much reduced" and a great depression is not on the horizon. Still a danger, he said, is the nation being "stuck in a new normal where unemployment rates stay high."
"I do get discouraged. I mean, there are times where I thought the economy would had gotten better by now," he said. "One of the things I think you understand as president is you're held responsible for everything. But you don't always have control of everything, especially an economy this big."

THE OBAMA RESPONSE TO NOVEMBER 2, 2010
(1) Obama still does not get the fact that he is a Socialist / Marxist / Statist and the vast majority of American People do not support his agenda of moving America into the Socialist column.
(2) Obama still thinks it is the government that creates jobs. The only way government creates jobs is to get out of the way of business and allow business to create jobs.
(3) Obama is still committed to Government Healthcare which the American people and business soundly reject. It is the Free Enterprise System that creates competition and economic delivery of services.
(4) Obama still believes that the American people elected him President knowing where he stood on issues and what his agenda was. The American people were not aware of Obamas Socialist agenda because he tried to keep as much about himself secret as possible.
(5) Obama still believes that if the American people only understood what he is doing, they would support him. We do know what he is doing, and we dont support him.
(6) Obama is still an incrementalist, as were many of the Democrats who lost their reelection bids. Obama is willing to be a one-term President if it enables him to further destroy Americas political, economic, and social system.
(7) Obama is now and always will be a narcissist. He cant help it. He still wants the American people to place their trust and faith in him rather than in the systems that have made and can still make America exceptional.
(8) Obama still doesnt believe in American Exceptionalism. He still doesnt believe in the superiority of the sum total of the ideas of the American people over that of an elite minority.
(9) Obama still does not want to prevent the invasion into America by those outside America who do not share the values, culture, and support the system that exist in America which have made this nation great.
(10) Obama still has an approval rating of 100% from pro-abortion groups. The heart and soul of Obama have not been changed by the American peoples rejection of him as an individual and his agenda.
(11) Obama will still attempt to move his agenda forward, continue to use un-constitutional means to bypass the separations of power, and checks and balances built into our system.
Is Quantanamo closed yet??
How many people were laid off and/or weren't hired because of the minimum wage increase.
And these jobs for the India trade contracts....They're not NEW jobs...
“One of the things I think you understand as president is you’re held responsible for everything. But you don’t always have control of everything, especially an economy this big.”
Oh but was he ever the biggest finger pointer at Bush when anything went wrong. No matter how obscure.
Cry Baby cry.
Dear Mr. President:
And just why do you think the health care system is "huge and complicated" -- not to mention "expensive"?
Could it have anything whatsoever to do with the federal goverment's continued meddling in its structure and finances since 1965?
The more the federal government is involved in a service, the higher its price and the less efficient (and effective) it will become.
You nitwit.
Best regards,
okie01

***** Obama said the danger of a second major recession is “much reduced” and a great depression is not on the horizon. ******
For WashingtonBeltwayBureauAgencies that is.
Obama said he thought that he would find common ground with Republicans by advancing health care proposals that had been introduced by Republican administrations as well as potential presidential candidate Mitt Romney when Romney was governor of Massachusetts.
Sorry, Mr. Alleged President. But the former Governor of Massachusetts, the most liberal Governor in the history of the republic, is still the all-time champ when it comes to implementing socialism. Perhaps if you had an "R" by your name you could compete, but lacking that...
“”.
Obama said he thought that he would find common ground with Republicans by advancing health care proposals that had been introduced by Republican administrations as well as potential presidential candidate Mitt Romney when Romney was governor of Massachusetts. “””””””
Mitt isn’t a Republican, he is a liberal.
When Maria Bartiromo explained to him how devastating his plan to raise capital gains taxes on stocks, etc. He said he understood but he thought it wasn’t fair not to raise the taxes.
The man is determined to destroy the economy from every angle possible.
“And he admits that he gets discouraged at times when dealing with the economy. “
I’m sure not as discouraged as folks who have been long term unemployed or underemployed.
of course it is more expensive the only person who didn’t know that is president ZERO.
The dumb@ss can’t say he wasn’t warned!
Then our long national nightmare might be over.
Yeah. Presidentin' is hard.
"Obama said he thought that he would find common ground with Republicans by advancing health care proposals that had been introduced by Republican administrations as well as potential presidential candidate MITT ROMNEY when MITT ROMNEY was governor of Massachusetts."
MITT ROMNEY
We'll remember, MITT ROMNEY!
“cause and effect”, Barack.
