Grayson doesn’t “get Conservatism wrong”, he understands Conservatism well enough, he made a personal decision to actively oppose fiscal Conservatism and embrace welfare state wealth transfers and populist rhetoric against the Fed Reserve, ‘banksters’, Wall street, etc...
The guy understands the political spectrum, he chose most of his positions he took in his political career based upon calculated decisions based upon opinion polling and his perception of himself that he could master populist demagoguery.
I don’t think anyone really knows if the man has any interest in the philosophical underpinnings of a Democratic Republic, he simply rented the policy positions of the party and coalitions of voter blocs most likely to get him elected in Central Florida.
There are two types of socialists.
1. Individuals on the left who promote socialism with good, though mistaken, intentions.
2. Politicians on the left who borrow socialism as a means to an end -- power. Like Latin American dictators. And Democrats.
Also, if Grayson is as politically knowledgable as you claim, how is it that he appears unaware that he is being increasingly perceived as a caricature of an extreme Leftist, and is quite probably severely damaging his chances at future electoral success by continuing with his confrontational intransigence after he was defeated? Just describing how things look to me, of course.
