Illegal Immigrants Flee Arizona Enforcement, Sanctuary Cities Attract Them
The Heritage Foundation ^ | 11.12/10

Posted on 11/14/2010 2:20:20 PM PST by RC one

According to a recent study, roughly 100,000 illegal immigrants could have fled Arizona since passage of SB 1070. The Mexican government reported that almost 25,000 illegal immigrants returned to Mexico following passage of the law. As we stated in “Controlling Illegal Immigration: State and Local Governments Must Do More”, under the Constitution, states and cities have considerable powers to deal with the illegal immigration within their jurisdictions.

Our work (along with many others) to guide states and localities resulted in SB1070. More states are looking to follow Arizona’s lead. With the exodus occurring in Arizona, other states should make sure they don’t become the next home for those fleeing Arizona.

Conversely, the Center for Immigration Studies released a report showing that $62.2 million in federal funds were sent to sanctuary cities to cover the costs of illegal immigrants. As pointed out by CIS, these sanctuary cities welcome illegal immigrants, but quickly ask the rest of the country to subsidize the costs of those policies. As we saw with welfare benefits in the 1980s and 1990s, people quickly figured out where to go based on the level of benefits they could get and somehow managed to find the money to get to those places.

It wouldn’t be too big of a surprise to learn that the illegal immigrants fleeing Arizona have gone to the sanctuary cities whose policies the rest of us subsidize.

I think we have found a good place to start cutting into the budget. I'll be damned if I quietly sit back and watch my taxes go up while the government continues to hand money out to sanctuary cities or the states that permit them. We have to fight this fight and there has never been a better time than RFN. If we can't afford the F22 program, we can't afford to subsidize cities that refuse to enforce federal law. At the very least, we should be debating the impact of hispanic voters on the 2010 mid term election results. It appears that hispanics voted for Democrats by a margin of 3:1 and we still had an incredible victory. I think we can fight and win here.

Ok Rick Perry. Now’s the time. We need to clear Houston.

The fight is on in the local levels...why do you think so many state legislative seats went to the GOP this recent election? In 2012 there has to be furthe gains to roll back this invasion and theft of public funds (our hard earned income).

We need to contact our Congressmen and ask for defunding of these sanctuary cities.

Don't be fooled...

The U.S. is a De facto sanctuary country, and the U.S. government literally rolled out the red carpet and aided and abetted every aspect of this invasion.

Don’t hold your breath on Gov. Goodhair getting riled up enough to do anything about anything. Of course, they all came to Austin, San Antonio, and Houston.

“We need to contact our Congressmen and ask for defunding of these sanctuary cities.”

While we are at it, defund the agencies that are providing the funding, even if it is the Justice Department.

I don’t believe any of these numbers!

I bet anything there are more illegals in AZ now than before. And that goes fo the rest of the country as well.

I’m really having no qualms rationalizing this as a conservative “Plover Blevins Strategy” to crash leftist cities!

Indeed. This had a great deal to do with the Republican resurgence in the states. It looks like the illegal alien problem is being dealt with from the grassroots up, just like welfare reform in the nineties. I had not known that The Heritage Foundation participated in the writing of SB1070 but it makes sense.

Ideally, the states will start making more and more progress in chasing out illegals, who will then overwhelm “sanctuary” cities and states in a domino cascade, with the citizenry there demanding reforms in turn.

exactly. get the enemy on the run and concentrate him in areas that don’t allow him to effectively bring his weapons to bear against us, so we can more effectively concentrate our weapons on him.

Could it be due to the lack of construction jobs and home improvements?

We need to use our new state governors to gerrymander the districts so that hispanics are marginalized. We need to get them to enact legislation similar to arizona sb 1070 such that Hispanics will be inclined to leave for liberal strongholds where their impact on future elections will be further reduced. In gerrymandering terms, this is known as “packing” or concentrating as many voters of one type into a single electoral district in order to reduce their influence in other districts. Doing this will allow us to “keep what we got” and will facilitate taking more ground in the future.

time for that crap to end. Write your congress critters. make demands. I’m preparing my words for Ohio’s new Republican leadership. I think this battle will be critical for conservatives. I think we can fight here and win. I think we’re in a gerrymandering year and we can multiply our gerrymandering effects by following Arizona’s lead at the grass roots level. I think we have no choice but to fight here and I think we’re in a good position to do so.

More states are looking to follow Arizona’s lead.

Arizona’s mayors should be handing out free bus tickets to San Fransicko.

If they got enough illegals to relocate there it would be Pelosi’s last term.
