Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- In response to a video of a California man's dispute with airport security officials, the Transportation Security Administration said Monday it tries to be sensitive to individuals, but everyone getting on a flight must be screened.

The video, in which software engineer John Tyner refuses an X-ray scan at the San Diego, California, airport, has sparked a debate over screening procedures.

I fly out of San Diego at least 1/2 a dozen times a year. I submitted to a pat down in July. I can't imagine being threatened with prosecution for refusing and saying I would rather not fly.

More disturbing is Napolitano's comment that the TSA acted appropriately. A similar statement was released by the head of the local San Diego TSA. Can you imagine the outrage in the media had this occurred while Bush was still president?

After Mohamed from TSA is done rolling your testicles in his fingers, come back and tell us if it was worth it.

“Never thought that I would live to see so many fainters on FR. Do you think that they would have ever been able to make it in the military in Iraq? (At HQ even, not talking about patrolling.)”

I don’t agree with these new TSA policies myself, and I’m finishing up my tour in Afghanistan where I’ve regularly patrolled with Marine infantry, Army infantry, and a little with SF and have been in combat. I personally think that rather than buying all these scanners, they should use that money to invest in explosives detecting dogs and training good handlers to sniff everybody in place of these current invasive procedures. It’s quick, effective, and doesn’t bombard people with unnecessary ionized radiation. Dog handling is my job in the military and I am a big believer in utilizing dogs in place of needless police state tactics. Save the invasive procedures for genuinely suspicious personnel and those who fit the normal jihadist profile. While yes, us military personnel are accustomed to this and don’t see it as being a big deal, it has no place in regular society in a nation that’s supposed to be the hallmark of personal freedom. Just my 2 cents.

I gave up flying when I realized I was spending about 6 hours getting to the airport, getting parking, getting molested and insulted by TSA, and then waiting for the plane to take off. Then flying white knuckled, waiting for some Islamic Bastard to announce he would kill everyone on the plane because TSA didn't want to profile the SOB and hurt his feelings.

So now, when I travel, 6 hours of drive time is not an issue. I dont need to visit the West Coast, been there done that.

Many of us have found a better way. We travel without Muslims, and we dont get molested by our Governments goons.

Except for the poster here that doesn't mind that his wife gets groped.

I don't think that's what he meant at all. Looked like a poorly worded comment to say that it hasn't happened yet.

Anyone who doesn't gag on the Orwellian word "Homeland" is un-American.

The instant I heard the announcement of the department I felt sick to my stomach.

“Has anyone yet seen a MUSLIM woman dressed in Muslin garb treated in this way by the TSA in an Airport?”

Yes - I saw a Muslim couple go through security. The woman (wearing a Hijab) was selected for the naked body scanner. The man was not and only had to go through the metal detector.

"Some of us enjoy getting away..."

A suicide bomber, in any crowded location, can kill hundreds of people.

Are you willing to subject yourself to this level of screening in every aspect of your life? Or does your acquiescence limit itself to airplanes?

Good one! There are a lot of imaginations running wild here, and it’s a hoot.

Never thought that I would live to see so many fainters on FR. Do you think that they would have ever been able to make it in the military in Iraq? (At HQ even, not talking about patrolling.)

What does serving in the military have to do with current TSA policies? The TSA also refused to allow the non-compliant traveler to leave, and threatened him with hefty fines....all because he refused the invasive pat-down or body scan. At that point, he was no more dangerous than I would be walking into an airport terminal. In fact, he would cause less damage in a hallway between security and the terminal, should he have been a suicide bomber.

Should I have to submit to these procedures because I walk into a terminal to meet a loved one? Maybe you think so, I do not. What's next.....a shopping mall? That's a public place where a suicide bomber could do a lot of damage.

At what point does the fourth ammendment become null and void? How about the fifth? He was threatened with loss of liberty when they refused to let him leave the airport. He finally decided to leave, but was threatened with a civil suit. How does this not violate his constitutional rights?

This man did everyone a favor. I find it refreshing when someone stands up for their constitutional rights instead of meekly submitting to the next grab at personal liberty.

Should say

“I love being treated like a Muslim by the TSA”

Everyone is being treated how the Muslim should be treated.

All so Muslims can fly on planes with us.

Multiculturalism is suicide.

Just read this solution....sounded good.

AIRPORT BODY SCANNER solution

Wonder why nobody thought of this before? Here’s a solution to all the
controversy over full-body scanners at the airports:

All we need to do is develop a booth that you can step into that will not
X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have hidden on
or in your body. The explosion will be contained within the sealed booth.

This would be a win-win for everyone. There would be no racial profiling
and the device would eliminate long and expensive trials. This is so simple it’s brilliant!
I can see it now: you’re in the airport terminal and you hear a muffled
explosion. Shortly thereafter an announcement comes over the PA system,
“Attention standby passengers, we now have a seat available on flight number...”
