Yes. These agencies (TSA, DHS) were created by "conservatives."
If you go back and look at the vote, the Senate was evenly split between creating the TSA or allowing the existing private security companies to implement new federal guidelines. Democrats were in favor of creating the new bureaucracy while Republicans opposed it. It was Kay Bailey Hutchinson of Texas who broke the tie. Her compromise allowed airports to choose between the TSA or their old security services. Of course the TSA was free while the others were not, so that is how the TSA was able to take over airline security. But now we have one airport that is ready to throw out TSA and hire someone else. Others airports need to be pressured to follow suit.
