John Conyers' son says items stolen from SUV, but why was he driving government vehicle?

John Conyers III, the son of U.S. Rep. John Conyers, says laptop computers and concert tickets were stolen from a government-registered vehicle last Wednesday in downtown Detroit, according to a police report obtained by Fox 2.

The Congressman's son told police he parked the 2010 Cadillac Escalade at Brush Street and Congress around 11:30 p.m. When he returned an hour later, he noticed scratches on the side door and said two Apple MacBooks and $27,000 in Fillmore concert tickets had been swiped.

The police report raises a number of questions. None more concerning than this: Why was the son of a Congressman driving a government vehicle?

Fox 2 reports the Escalade was registered to Conyers' 14th Congressional District, where a spokeswoman for the office is preparing a response.

Former Rep. Joe Knollenberg, an Oakland County Republican who lost his seat in 2008, told the television station family use of a government vehicle is unusual.

"I don't know of a single person in congress in the 16 years I was there who had to put vehicle titles in the name of the government," he said.

"I would tell you that they better use this (vehicle) just for the purpose of what they had been required to do. Not to get into the hands of a relative or a friend or whatever."

John Conyers III turned 20 this summer and apparently celebrated with a bottle of Moet champagne, which he showed off behind the wheel of a stationary Cadillac. It's unclear whether it was the same vehicle. Or whether his "dad is a player." Or just reads Playboy for the articles.

Another question arises and is made more serious if it is the same vehicle...drinking age is 21.

WHY are Charlie Rangel, John Conyers, et al allowed to be criminals and remain in positions to make and influence laws that would send the rest of us to prison for such behavior?

Why does black skin trump the laws of the land and the Constitution? Civil Rights wasn't meant to be about this. This is abuse of power, pure and simple...and there is no way around it.

The penduleum has swung back too far the other way, and it needs to be centered again.

As long as the word "racist" makes us blink, we'll never be rid of the criminal element in this country.

John Conyers should be severely reprimanded for using taxpayer money to register a vehicle to the government and then allowing his family to drive it for personal use. Do we even know who paid for the vehicle...probably we taxpayers.

I work hard to pay my taxes and highly resent the money being an open ATM for those who want to live the high-life...hear that Conyers? Rangel? Maxine? Obama? Michelle?

Crooks...one and all.

On a related note, from this past spring....

Members of Congress spend tax money on luxury cars, high salaries and perks Senators, representatives boosted own budgets by 5 percent last year

Check out the Police Report here.

1) It states the 2010 Cadillac Escalade is owned by Rep. Conyers who lives in Lorton Virginia.

2) Two Apple laptops 'stolen' along with 1000 concert tickets (500 VIP @ $30 a piece and 500 Regular @ $25 a piece).

None of these people are interested in equality. They’re in a mode of getting back at the past by pretty much just taking what they see and if they can’t lie their way out of it then too f-in’ bad. Talk about your “bitter clingers”...

Here’s another question. Why is a 2010 Cadillac Escalade a government vehicle? I can’t afford one of those. What does the government need with it?

2010 Cadillac Escalade

I try so hard not to think in terms of stereotypes. But reality keeps dragging me back in.

Was the Escalade yellow and did it have “spinner” hub caps?

I have another question - why is the government buying 2010 Cadillac Escalades?

While I was stationed in the field in North Dakota, we drove old K-cars and Chevy or Dodge (the real old ones) pickups. The Missile crews drove old Suburbans.

I became Chief of Safety and went through over a year of paperwork and groveling to a worthless Transportation Squadron Tech Sergeant to get a old Base Fire Department 4-Wheel Drive suburban transferred from the Re-utilization Office (the place where they auction old stuff off) to my office because we needed 4-Wheel Drive.

SAC Headquarters denied it telling us that once we had it we could then buy a newer one later and they did not want that.

When I asked them what to do if we had to respond to an accident off base they told us to borrow one from the fire department.

About four months later we had a chopper crash and since my office owned the scene I asked for a 4-wheel drive (winter with over three feet of snow) and the FD denied it as they drove all theirs out to the site. We were one of the last people on site as I had to hitch a ride later.

Anyway, I got stationed in DC and in the parking lot were six BRAND NEW 4-Wheel Drive Suburbans, in Virginia!

I was really upset to say the least.

Please keep us posted on this story. I don’t understand why it says this is a government car. I suspect that this vehicle was leased with money from Conyers’ congressional office budget. Also: why would he live in Lorton? That is a truly hideous commute to Capitol HIll, up 95 and 395. The only way it would make sense would be if the prison was still there.

Back in the day government vehicles had no radio, no a/c and no automatic transmission. I guess times have changed.

"Why was the son of a Congressman driving a government vehicle? "

"Yes, this is the same Conyers with a wife in prison."

It is the fault of the ones who sent mommy to prison. That is why this poor unfortunately youngster was down in Detroit making mischief with the taxpayers car. If the taxpayers were not so stupid, this young man would not have access to a government car and he would have taken the bus to his drug dealer.

Oh and I forgot, it is all BUSH's fault too.

“Why is a 2010 Cadillac Escalade a government vehicle? I can’t afford one of those. What does the government need with it?”

“Because it helps to project an image of black pride and success (however illegitimate) in such a way that we too should be proud?...

Don’t you feel proud that some of our most beloved congressmen and women ride around in such cool comfort? Don’t you admire how cool and important they must be?...

Don’t be jealous of their success, though. Rather, let’s all be proud together, as a community, that we are being represented in this way...

The better they look the better we should feel about them and ourselves when we vote for them again and again.”

How’s that for a load of bullsh*t?
