Barring a steep drop in crude prices, U.S. motorists can expect to see gas prices exceeding $3 per gallon, if they are not seeing such prices already, according to a new survey of filling stations.

The latest Lundberg Survey of cities in the continental United States was conducted Friday. It showed the national average price for a gallon of self-serve unleaded gasoline at $2.91, an increase of 3.9 cents from the last survey two weeks earlier, survey publisher Trilby Lundberg said.

Oregon Coast diesal is $3.39.

I use the pump station Carson fuel and pay $2.79.

We don’t have Safeway fuel stations in our area but when we are down south on the coast I can fill at Safeway for $2.67.

I just started the Fred Meyer rewards since they give a ten cent per gallon discount at Shell gas for reward points but still that is more expensive than my lock card station.

The last time I saw gas under $3.09 was in Arizona on my way back from the midwest in early August. California once again ‘leads the way’....

In Eastern CA, in the foothills, it has been over 3 bucks for quite some time now. It is about 3.19 for regular right now, maybe higher since I haven’t filled up in a few days.

Prices here in Memphis are up 10 cents since last week. Some places approaching $2.85 already.

I filled up the gas tank last Monday near Little Rock at $2.58 per gallon. By Friday, most places were in the $2.75-.79 range.

Not to forget to mention QE2 inflating the dollar.

The devaluation of the dollar was the excuse that was given on the radio this morning. Doesn't make sense that it would have caused my local prices to jump 15-20 cents overnight, though. It'd be more gradual, I'd think.

How to make successful forecasts of gas prices:

“Motorists could see $3 gas at pumps by Christmas”

CORRECTED:

"Motorists could see $3 gas at pumps by three weeks ago last Wednesday."

I paid up to 3.20 a gallon during Bush. I guess I can do it again. I think the govt wants it to go up to 4 or 5 dollars a gallon.
