Collapse - Republican opposition to New START is collapsing
National Review Online - The Corner ^ | 12/21/10 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 12/21/2010 7:54:11 AM PST by Fury

Republican opposition to New START is collapsing. One Senate source just told me the vote for ratification could go as high as 75. Another said, “I don’t know if it will get that high, but it’s starting to tick up there.” As the sense builds that ratification is inevitable, Republicans are lining up to get on the “right side.” Lamar Alexander’s support, noted below, is a crucial sign of which way the wind is blowing, although he’ll probably be the only member of the Republican leadership to vote for it. At least Jon Kyl was able to get more money for modernization and that letter from President Obama making assurances on missile defense. Otherwise, this is a dismaying rout.

Well the GOP is off to a shaky start. What else is new? They are the disappointment that keeps on disappointing.

These damned, infernal RINOs keep confounding us all the time!

To hell with the Republicrat Party! Time for a truly legitimate third party that would shellac both parties!

They will be in office soon enough but I’m going to err on the side of caution and remain cynical. They will let us down.

This treaty totally ignores the expanding nuclear capability of China. What will happen if China and Russia decide that together they can launch a preemptive nuclear strike on the US AND WIN?

The only “compelling” reason is that it probably WON’T get ratified with 6 new, non RINO senators.

The sole purpose of the Republican Party is to serve as an ineffective alternative to the Democrat Party.

I propose that the GOP symbol be changed from the noble and dignified and courageous elephant to.....A LAME DUCK!

I know some graphics expert FReeper can do this.

Republicans are lining up to get on the “right side.”

Excuse me, the “right” side is NOT Obama’s and Mother Russia’s!

Tactical nukes: The Soviets have a 10:1 advantage over us in this area. This treaty freezes that advantage.

The letter from Obama has no relevance to the treaty with the Soviets. The treaty stands as written.

The treaty’s language needs revision, defining the differences between offensive and defensive nukes.

I just called McConnell and told him to drag Alexander and Coker (two rats from Tennessee) and the rest of the RINOs into the cloakroom and tell them that backing START is a really bad move. Pissing us off can be dangerous.

They’ve joined the rest of the liberal pansies many times to shred and wipe their asses on the Constitution, but the majority of Americans won’t stand for this treason any longer!!!!!!

I would rather let everyone in the Senate go home and force the Democrats who will be returning to listen to the people who elected them on the START treaty then have the vote. I also think denying Obama success, if even temporarily, is always the best course for Republicans.

How can opposition be collapsing when the admin is still refusing to release the negotiating record?!

The GOP “leadership” in the Senate cannot even hold party members together for a proper filibuster. The new blood will mean litle, so long as the leadership is eager to whore themselves.
