Collapse - Republican opposition to New START is collapsing
National Review Online - The Corner ^ | 12/21/10 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 12/21/2010 7:54:11 AM PST by Fury

Republican opposition to New START is collapsing. One Senate source just told me the vote for ratification could go as high as 75. Another said, “I don’t know if it will get that high, but it’s starting to tick up there.” As the sense builds that ratification is inevitable, Republicans are lining up to get on the “right side.” Lamar Alexander’s support, noted below, is a crucial sign of which way the wind is blowing, although he’ll probably be the only member of the Republican leadership to vote for it. At least Jon Kyl was able to get more money for modernization and that letter from President Obama making assurances on missile defense. Otherwise, this is a dismaying rout.

My expectations are based on a 15-20 year outlook with many wins and losses along the way.

Defeat may accept me, but I have no plans on going down gracefully.

Cheers FRiend!

If America goes down, no nation will be so lucky as to go down gracefully. Any and all freedom will have been lost, for all who are left in the world. Makes one wonder why so many nations dislike or hate us. For the people of the world, America is their best and only real hope for the taste, known as freedom. Though freedom for some, of the world, is the right to dislike, hate, or kill us.

Hey, pal, your gross and misguided use of the word “NeoCon” as some sort of a pejorative to negatively label the sensible among us who have VERY legitimate reasons to strongly oppose the START treaty as a genuine threat to American sovereignty and national defense makes you sound like nothing more than a DU or Daily Kos troll. Perhaps Mr. Robinson should look into your comments a little further to determine if you should even be posting on Free Republic in the first place.

Remember, the President sold us out with a bad treaty...

then he gets the Mullens types in the military, butt-kissing bureaucrats with 5 stars, to say it will be fine (it wont), to ‘sell’ it.

THEN he gets the Democrats to line up because, well, they care more about Obama’s image then US security.

Then it’s on the shoulders of the GOP Senators to stop it.
Apparently the spine they showed last week to stop the spending was a one-time deal. Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

No, you CANT meddle with the treaty. Common sense, it was negotiated. You either accept or reject, you dont rewrite it in the Senate.

I say NYET to it.

“All they had to do was announce that the American people had spoken in November and that they would thus filibuster EVERYTHING until the new congress that the American people elected was seated. “

I AGREE 100%!

ROFL!

This was a stinky, lousy give-away by Obama, the most anti-reality President in our lifetimes.
Estaliblishment types that went along were just being kind to the ‘leader’.

If you want to own this turd deal, go ahead. It does nothing for the USA but it does a lot to put Putin and ex-USSR on a pedestal they dont deserve.

And Putin fans are *NOT* for the USA.

Now, even more than usual, I miss Jesse Helms. He would have championed the opposition to this treaty, and he was a real champion, not one of these phonies who declare personal opposition but sit idly by as other Republicans hop on board with the Rats.

What’ll kill the party off for good is the Hispanic demographic explosion.

An unverifiable treaty, with a Russian veto of our missile defenses thrown into the deal.

Another reason I’m no longer part of the Republican Party.

This should be killed NOW.

The fact that we are ratifying a treaty in a lame duck Congress for the express purpose of avoiding the will of the American people is amazing. We have gone from a Republic to Banana republic.

Takes a MONTH at least for a letter to get through security...white powder slowed that form of contact WAY DOWN.

Which means many, many others are calling.

TN Eagle Forum sent out the alert this morning. I suspect other states chapters did too, along with Tea Party alerts.

They can’t hide from us any more.

I finally got through and the staffer told me that they are getting overwhelmed with calls from angry voters on this START nonsense. More calls were following mine. McConnell is against this treaty and we need to give him the data to present to his colleagues. Just call and tell that the GOP does not need to support or molly coddle a POTUS that just had one of the most overwhelming no-confidence vote in history. I also told them that I would be working actively to defeat Republicans who support Obozo as much as the Dems.

Anti-reality?

All the realists have been trotted out in support. Kissinger, Schultz, Baker, Rice, Powell, Scowcroft, Gates, GHW Bush.

Everyone that was involved in the first START treaty
