The green hijack of the Met Office is crippling Britain
The Telegraph ^ | 26 Dec. 2010 | Christopher Booker

The Met Office's commitment to warmist orthodoxy means it drastically underestimates the chances of a big freeze, says Christopher Booker......

.....At the heart of all this greenie make-believe that has our political class in its thrall has been the hijacking of the Met Office from its proper role. It’s no longer just a national joke: it is turning into a national catastrophe.

This, as a foolish woman at the NYT writes that all the cooling is due to extra snow in Siberia, due to AGW. I don't wonder at their foolishness. They stand to gain financially if they pull it off. I wonder, instead, at the foolishness of those among the general population who actually believe them and will suffer greatly for it.

Great article about how climate activists have taken over the Met Office, and resulted in poor resource allocation to deal with the unusually harsh winters.

Excerpts from the article...

What seems completely to have passed Mr Quarmby by, however, is the fact that in these past three years the Met Office’s forecasting record has become a national joke. Ever since it predicted a summer warmer and drier than average in 2007 – followed by some of the worst floods in living memory – its forecasts have been so unerringly wrong that even the chief adviser to our Transport Secretary might have noticed.

The consequences of all this are profound. Those who rule over our lives have been carried off into a cloud-cuckoo-land for which no one was more responsible than the zealots at the Met Office, subordinating all it does to their dotty belief system. Significantly, its chairman, Robert Napier, is not a weatherman but a “climate activist”, previously head of WWF-UK, one of our leading warmist campaigning groups.

Political motivation is hardly an anomaly in American science labs, either.

Jefferson was correct about the essentiality of an informed electorate to the future of America. With corrupted science, neither citizen nor elected official can make valid decisions.

“Agenda Uber Alles” is not acceptable in our science labs, nor in our educational facilities.

It is long past time to muck out the intellectual stables which out schools, universities and labs have come.

FIRE THE ACADEMENTED! ! !

Sad that it takes such harsh realities to motivate us to throw the bums out, but whatever it takes.

Government agencies that screw up this badly should be severely punished, and it is easy and economically salubrious to do so. Cut their funding, drastically, or eliminate them altogether. This Met office should be eliminated and their role taken over by the private sector on a contract basis. They are not irreplaceable.

In the US, the same treatment should be given to the FCC, the Department of Energy, the Department of Education, and many, many others. That's how you cut spending.

This one chart could have saved the UK millions the past three winters. The Cold winters are occurring right on schedule. In general, the coldest points in the Earth's atmosphere during the solar cycle start near the bottom low point of solar activity and end some where near the top high point. El Nino's and La Nina's have the capability to monitor that annual trend over monthly time spans.

And BTW, NASA declared November 2010 the hottest ever, which is a statistical impossibility considering that the entire Central and Eastern Pacific Oceans have been colder then normal for the last 6 months of 2010. Just shows you how accurate their data is. They will never ever return to the moon again, at that rate.
