It wouldn't be as easy now because of the welfare influx. The division debate was before the left littered Upstate with all those crummy complexes. They've spread their little rats around the state like a disease.
A new state wouldn’t have to be as generous as NYS is currently. And I suspect that a lot of folks who like living on the dole would bug out for more amenable climes.
