A Dem legislature and governor passed it in Iowa. It can happen in IL.

Ok, so you’re point was that Arizona is distinct from Alaska and Vermont in the sense that more Iowans will be exposed to us than to the other states? If so, I guess I can see that.

The argument I heard was that Arizona differs because we have larger cities and probably more crime. Anchorage is around 400,000. Phoenix is 1.6 million.

Folks argued it only worked in places with small cities. If it works in Phoenix (5th largest in the US), then that argument is blown to hell. And I haven’t heard of mass killings by out of control but otherwise law abiding gunslingers, so I think it will work just fine.

Iowa has been an open carry state all along. The permit before was called a permit to carry. Made no mention of the word "concealed" whatsoever.

But, seeing as how Iowas was not a Shall Issue state, it was assumed that the first time you went out OC that resulted in a silly incident, the Sheriff would revoke the permit.

As of tomorrow, Iowa is a Shall Issue state, and there is still no mention of conceal whatsoever. I don't plan on OC, but it will be interesting to see if anyone does.

Are they still the ‘Chinks’?

P.C. nonsense has changed that name to "The Dragons".

OK, I see where you’re coming from. I’m sure it will work too. By definition the only people whose actions will be affected will be the law abiding, who don’t normally go around shooting up the place. Can you imagine someone who shouldn’t be carrying refraining because he can’t pass the background check, but now that it’s legal, he’ll do it? Neither can I. If he wanted to carry before, he would have done so, and he still will.

Much as I hate paying the fee for the permit, I recognize that Ohio's bribe to Sheriffs (they get to keep the fee for issuing a permit) helped gain their support for our shall-issue CCW law.

in the early nineties I was a reserve police officer in a Grundy county town. The sheriff there would not give the reserve officers a permit to carry. Even after training.
