At a meeting of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform — the Simpson-Bowles commission tasked with finding a solution to deficits — one panel member, Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., cited disability payments as an example of government spending "out of control."

Oh, yeah, the new fad is autism, also a euthemism for ADD, ADHD or learning disabilities (bad schools).

I know of a local school district where 30% of the kids are considered "special needs". I'd say it's crazy, but that'd probably qualify the administrators too!

Actually it’s ADHD. There was an article in the Boston paper about kids whose parents get them to act up so they can get on Ritalin, because the government accepts that as proof of disability and pays out about 500 to 600 per month per child in SSI checks. The parents become addicted to the check and keep making the kid take the Ritalin well into adulthood. The stories made it look like these were normal kids or could be normal, but because they grew up takin Ritalin and being told they were ‘challenged’, they have no future as productive citizens. Your tax dollars at work.

A relative, upper NY socialist, never paid income taxes or filed a return.

As he approached 62, he thought it would be wise to earn some legitimate SS points. He worked for a hardware company enough quarters to qualify for minimum SS at 62, then quit.

Just as he was about to turn 62 he informed the family that he was finally diagnosed with ADHD and qualified for SSI.

It is not about stretching the checks, its about scamming the system. Her husband retired from an insurance company after 30 years, and before he left, claimed disability and got it. To this day, he is skiing, working out and all the other stuff and collecting retirement and SSDI. He hasn’t gotten the personalized license plates though, yet. He works under the table at the gym.

I have to say, that's a great idea.
More and more I am becoming convinced that the smart thing to do is to grab as much money back from the government as you possibly can before the Democrat parasites eat it all up.

He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent. He qualifies for food stamps and no deductible, no co-pay free health care. His children get free school breakfasts and lunches. The kids qualify for monthly SSI checks, faking ADD; the illegal and his wife get SSI if they fake being aged, blind or disabled; SSI qualifies them for Medicare. Plus illegals don't worry about pricey items like car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance, and qualifies for relief from high energy bills.

NOTE WELL: Earned Income Tax Credit is available only to immigrant workers who obtain legal work status. But the law allows immigrants to claim EITC for up to three years prior to obtaining that status. Workers simply file a tax return for the years in which they were not legally eligible to work in the US. The most widespread abuse stems from the requirement that children live with the worker for more than six months of the year. IRS does little to verify the claim. Many immigrants claim non-existent children, or claim children who they’ve left behind with relatives. Those with two or more children and income below $32,121 could get as much as $4,008. It is estimated that illegals got $22 billion.

The guy was only pulling around $850 a month so it was hard for me to envision going this direction...for such a limited amount of money...and thinking you could really live off this...

I know people in their 20-40's - perfectly able to work, but have the new Illness de Riguer: Bi-polar. (At least they have the lingo down pat. It's a 'disease' that can't be medically diagnosed...

they get the $859 plus $200 food stamps, that $1059 a month plus 100% on all medical and counseling.

They are VERY good at finding free or next to free places to live...so take rent/mortgage out of the equation - and utilities.

Plus, they pick up under the table money doing odd jobs without working much.

Take away your rent/mortgage/prop. taxes, utilities, medical costs - do you have over a thousand left over?

some do, of course, with good paying jobs - but I think you could 'get along' on $1,000+ after fixed bills. And have all the hours of your days as one long vacation.

I know one gal in our town who flies off for visits to Calif. or Florida or Idaho - a visit to England - trips I sure can't afford on a regular basis. She's healthy and strong as a horse - but she was a druggy and an alcoholic and has 'bi-polar.' How can we expect her to WORK!s/
