THANKS TONS JIM,
FOR THE ADDED INFO AND PERSPECTIVE.
I think your seDiments are wise and reasonable.
Certainly would NOT like to increase hazards of copyright hassles. Enough as it is already yet.
WOULD like to see perhaps a bit more backup hardware.
Would say . . . double the hardware be helpful?
If so, what would be the cost?
Perhaps another way to ask . . . are there
any
hardware improvements that are reasonably doable that would make John’s job easier and the system more fault tolerant?
If so, what and at what cost?
I think that’s info that a lot of us would be happy to consider rising to the task of helping make happen, regardless of meager donation abilities.
It REALLLLLLY helps, Jim, for us peons in the hinterlands to understand better your perspective, convictions, values as well as the realities of the hardware and software.
We can feel MUCH better about being yokefellows when we understand the lay of the land and the nitty gritties more fully and more accurately than guessing allows.

Actually I'd like to see a study on that. I tend to think many of the FReepers I encounter on my visits tend to be contributors.
I'd like to see that, too. My gut tells me that it's probably a 60/40 split in favor of donors - but if that were true, 40 is a big number. If it were actually closer to 80/20, then it would be safe to go to a "pay-to-play" model.
All of that to say that JR seems to be happy with the current model, and I have to agree with him, based on empirical evidence. It will either survive on the current model or it won't - if something better comes along and everyone flocks to it, then that was the answer.

I see, but I am talking about on this thread, what elsie posted not long ago. Now I guess you are wanting to be moderator of RF also?Just as I called it, the Inquisitors of the FRinquisition. But doesn't demanding what you want make YOU the inquisitor of the FRinquisition?
It looks to me that you're doing the very thing you're condemning.

Still sore about your fearless leaders demise? How about donating? Might make you feel better. Maybe you could start a Non-Sequitur memorial fund, donate the proceeds to Free republic.

Yes, there is an FRinquisition and you are part of it along with several others and many of us are damned sick of it.A point of view is one thing, browbeating is another especially on the ganging up with the ping list of your band of merry martyrs!

I have to disagree with that one. They host videos that other places don't have. And they are usually interesting videos.
The bloggers that irritate me are the ones that post day old news as if it's new and they just thought of their "angle" when Freepers had been posting the same points all day the day before.

You’ve grown an American resource that millions of Americans don’t want to see go away. How can we ensure that it won’t?
INDEED.

As Freepers we discuss the oddest things. It's one of the things that I love about this place.

It got to that point by them abusing the ‘caucus’ designation.
