Eastern Australia is supposed to get above average rainfall during a summer time La Nina, but this rain has been severe. And they also went into this rain with a mostly filled dam above Brisbane. Must have been expecting the previous drought and less rainfall to continue. This La Nina has been something special. Severe precipitation that you normally do not get during a La Nina. What we really have here is strong La Nina combined with a PDO and weak sun. No El Nino and no global warming involved at all.

Corrected and expanded. Later.

What we really have here is strong La Nina running on over 6 months now, combined with a Cold PDO and weakly active sun running on over 6 years. Those are the present conditions. Not last years average atmospheric temp. The atmosphere temps have been falling and are right now close to normal. Only two decent hot spots in shallow ocean water right now and they are no where near Australia or Brazil. Right now there are no El Nino effects and no Global Warming effects possibly occurring during the actual flooding.
