I never said cigarettes should be banned, smoke them if you want.

I simply can’t stand the willful ignorance by many on FR with regard to smoking and second-hand smoke.

I’ve seen it’s effects for myself and don’t need a plethora of medical studies to know it is bad for you.

But hey, smoke em’ if you got em’!

No thanks on the smoking, I quit long ago.

Thanks for revealing the real reason behind your problem.

I’ll leave you alone now.

And what about some of us that have made an effort to understand scientific methodology and actually read many of the studys that have been done? AND, come to the conclusion that the government should ,pun intended, butt out.
Of peer reviewed studys on ETS, 80% find no association with cancer.

I’ve seen it’s effects for myself and don’t need a plethora of medical studies to know it is bad for you.

So, are you admitting to willful ignorance, or would you rather take anecdotal evidence than scientific studys?

Is smoking bad for you? Yes, but not nearly as much as the government and anti-smoking cabals would have you believe.

We “boomers”, children of the Greatest Generation, lived with parents who smoked like freight trains. They cooked fat laden, delicious meals and we ate them without a thought as to the “damage” they might do. We rode around in cars that belched toxic fumes into their interiors, without seat belts, with our younger siblings sitting on our laps. We drank soft drinks made with real sugar and ate all the Twinkies we could get.
We figured out what to do and not to do with things by ourselves without “dummie warnings” on everything we bought. When we became adults, we mostly followed the same lifestyles.

No one says that smoking is good for anyone. We know it isn’t. Neither is a fast food diet. But choices belong to people, not governments. Everyone has the right to live free of cigarette smoke if it bothers them. By the same token, anyone who wants to smoke, in spite of the known dangers should be able to do so, just like anyone who wants to eat fatty food should be able to without being made to feel inferior.

If you want to outlaw every substance that has a chance of shortening your life, stay away from the pharmacy. Have you listened to any advertisements for prescription drugs lately? If there’s anything I’ve learned in a pretty long life, it’s this: No one gets out of it alive, regardless of what they do or don’t do.

I smoked for many years before I quit. I quit because I realized it made me stink and I could do something much more enjoyable with the money it cost. Quitting also made me feel better, but I didn’t quit to live longer or for fear of DNA damage and neither will anyone else.

Showing that suffering old man’s picture above is the kind of scare propoganda I hate. You would think the poor soul killed himself on purpose. DNA damage my putootie! If that were true, most of the boomers would have two heads and an extra set of eyes.

I think it was the late Milton Berle who said “If you quit smoking, drinking, gambling, playing cards and sex, you won’t live forever.....it’ll just seem like it.”

Do you use a cell phone? There are studies that say the radiation in cell phones is the cause of a rise in tumor related illnesses. How many willfully ignorant people are using cell phones?
