Here in Florida, we see so many outlandish political ploys that it's hard anymore to get too worked up about any particular one.
We do stupid like Nebraska does corn.
Still, one Central Florida legislator's proposal for a new law is so box-of-rocks awful that it's worth highlighting.
Freshman state Rep. Jason Brodeur wants to tell doctors what they can say in their own offices.

Should it be a crime for doctors to ask patients whether they have guns?

Five more to the doc: None of your effing business.
“Let me get this straight. If somenbody comes in to a doctors office with what looks like a bullet hole in him the Doctor does not get to ask if he has been shot?!?!!”
I wouldn’t call that probing or snooping - so I’m, of course, fine with that - and I think everyone else here feels the same.
VA doctors (Veterans Administration) ask that question all the time. They also ask if you smoke and would you like to attend classes to stop?
They don’t ask if you want to go on a weight loss program or have a skin rejuvenation therapy.
I just answer that it is none on their business how many weapons I have, and what calibers they are. I also tell them (in regards to smoking) I haven’t smoked a day in my life. I just can help it if I happen to suck in some smoke from a nearby cigar or pipe.
We had a lively discussion on this earlier today - it wound up that the biggest supporter is married to doctor. LOL. Of course that person would be protecting the doctor.
None of their bidness BUMP
"If you have a pool, make sure it's fenced in"
"Make sure any dangerous chemicals are locked up."
"If you own a gun, make sure it's secure."
No, that is just the scenario that the butt wipe Maxwell is constructing to try an ridicule the representatives bill. A doctor would know a GSW in a heartbeat.
I have to admit I have the best doctor. We talk about which guns we have! Hes a strong conservative and a proud gun owner, so its fun going to doctor.
If any other doctor asks me I will just say no. Its that simple.
“...a doc with a political agenda could use the govt to bring down on you.”
Correct. I’ve been arguing this case all day on another thread. Doctors are there to heal the sick, not to interrogate your child about guns in your home.
Interesting that Doctor’s kill more people than guns.

She would have an absolute COW if she knew he got a .22 rifle for Christmas.
This representative is looking to short circuit and future provisions in federal health care laws that would collect information on patients.
Just read where Schmucky Schumer of New York now wants ANYONE who admits to a government official (tomorrows Doctors?) to illegal drug use to REPORT IT to the FBI show that the person CAN NOT purchase a weapon.
Indeed.
Heal my kid and send me a bill. None of the Dr’s business if the parents have guns in the home. In fact, if a doctor were really concerned about the child’s safety, he should welcome the fact that Daddy/Mommy are armed and able to protect them from home invasions, child molesters and such.
It got hot over here:

You ain’t joking! I can’t believe how many of my family and friends doctors have killed or almost killed.
“Interesting that Doctors kill more people than guns.”
So by their logic, it seems reasonable to have teachers (or someone) ask kids if a doctor lives in the house, and if so, what measures the kid needs to take to be safe.’
LOL!!!
Imagine the double threat of having gun-owning doctors as parents?
I thought that's what the HIPAA privacy laws were supposed to protect against.
Do you honestly believe that HIPPA regs would keep statists from their dream of a tame and controlled citizenry?
“Imagine the double threat of having gun-owning doctors as parents?”
YIPE!!!!!!!!!
They would unless amended or repealed, and I'm not so sure that that wouldn't happen. That's why I'm uncomfortable about this whole questions thing. Why ask questions, if you're just looking out for their safety? Why not just give them safety info and let them go from there? They can decide to follow it or not. Is there a law that requires doctors to ask these questions? If not, why do they do it?
