"Beloved" was the flop that launched Oprah's flab -- or some of it at least.
The 1998 drama's box-office failure prompted the Queen of Daytime to embark on a "massive, depressive, macaroni-and-cheese eating tailspin," she tells Piers Morgan on the premiere of his new show.
In a teaser from the "Tonight" interview with the star, Oprah Winfrey says she turned to comfort food when "Bride of Chucky" beat "Beloved" in its opening weekend.
"I remember... hearing that we got beat by something called 'Chucky,' and I didn't even know what Chucky was," she says. "I asked my chef at the time, 'Make some macaroni and cheese!'"
In Oprah's signature over-the-top style, she didn't stop at just one bowl of the fatty indulgence.
"I ate about 30 lbs. worth," she tells Morgan. "I'm not kidding, I'm not kidding."
After that initial binge, the 56-year-old actress admits that she fell into what she described as a deep depression.
"I recognized, if I don't come out of this, I'm going to have to get some help," she explains. "You feel like you're behind a veil... I prayed my way through it and gave myself a time period."
While "Beloved" may have tanked, the star's latest venture doesn't look likely to cause any comfort food binges any time soon.
Winfrey's television network, OWN, earned 18.4 million viewers in its first week; that's 49% up from the Discovery Health channel, which the network replaced.
Hard to know which is bigger. Her butt or her ego. I can’t stand this woman!
She’s a Chicago type.
Did you send Oprah all that macaroni and cheese?????
Think she’ll blow up like a spring toad if her new OWN network fails?!
Never mind depression. You eat thirty pounds of mac & cheese at one time, you’re gonna (a) fall into a food coma, and (b) be seriously bound up.
It's always anything except lack of self-control.
Another “O” I can’t stand to watch or hear. Ever.
Depression is a clinical, chemical disorder.
You feel “sad” because your movie sucked, or your puppy died, or your girlfriend dumped you.
After a couple of days, you get over it.
How long does it take a behemoth like Orca Windbag to eat 30 lbs of mac and cheese?
Yep. “The Philanthropist” couldn’t bring herself to go to any ceremonies commemorating Iraqi girls getting equal schooling with boys for the first time ever and women there voting for the first time ever because her book club wasn’t doing well.
If I made the kind of money off a movie that she did, I wouldn’t care if it was 400,000th on Amazon.com movie sales.
We’ll probably find out. I heard that OWN got huge curiosity ratings the first week, then went into a tailspin.
Anybody got a line on how many pounds Orca will eat when OWN tanks?
If it could fly on its own it wouldn’t need some much promotion.
"And after this, Orca, we'll get you your usual load of mac & cheese!"

“I heard that OWN got huge curiosity ratings the first week, then went into a tailspin.”
I hope it tailspins right into the ground. Discovery Health was one of the good channels. There was some crap on there, I know. But the legit medical programing was really good. Reruns can still be found here and there, but I doubt that there will be any new ones. Mystery Diagnosis was my favorite.
She was done in byChucky Cheese?......
Her audience is the same as she. That’s why she is so popular. COMISERATIN!......
Is this before or after she started her cult?
