Moving aggressively to make good on election promises to slash the federal budget, the House GOP today unveiled an eye-popping plan to eliminate $2.5 trillion in spending over the next 10 years. Gone would be Amtrak subsidies, fat checks to the Legal Services Corporation and National Endowment for the Arts, and some $900 million to run President Obama's healthcare reform program.

There was also a space heater with a feather duster taped to it

Must have been an older model; mine has a Swiffer dusting cloth attached.

Works great.

"Yes, it is a joke."

The GOP will show themselves cowards yet again. It's apparent they have NO intention of taking on entitlements. They are cutting around the edges of "discretionary" spending.

Yes, that needs to be done too...first even. But without real substantial cuts to SS, Medicare and Medicaid we don't stand a chance of removing $1.5 Trillion/yr from the budget.

This is how far we have fallen as a nation.

http://www.dailytech.com/GAO+Discovers+EnergyStar+Program+is+Incredibly+Flawed/article17989.htm

Energy Star is a fraud. The GAO proved it. It only exists as a selling point for industry.

Incompetence, carelessness, and misinformation — Congressional investigators found all of those things when investigating the EnergyStar program over the course of the last year.

Congressional auditors posing as companies secured EnergyStar credentials for 12 bogus products since last June, illustrating deep problems with the green certification program.

Among the bogus products that received the supposedly prestigious distinction were a “gasoline-powered alarm clock” and an “air purifier”, which really was an electric space heater with a feather duster glued to the top.

I still have my old washer and dryer, and do not intend to part with them-I do not want to try to get clothes clean in something that uses so little water that I see products advertised especially for it because it makes everything stink-that is NOT clean.

We bought a W/D from Sears about four years ago. Front loader Washer and Energy efficient dryer. Love them both. The dryer gave me fits electrically but that's okay I have spent my whole life fixing things like it.

The washer is awesome. It washes everything well and uses less than half the water of a top loader. I can't say enough good things about it.

Pretty timid list; how about terminating some whole agencies such as EPA, DOE, and HUD along with selling off some of the millions of acres of Federal lands in the Western states?

I love this idea.

We know there is bleed over between depts.

A fullscale top to bottom AUDIT is well overdue.
