Annual ‘March for Life’ to Hit Washington Monday
CNS News ^ | 1/21/11 | Matt Cover

The annual March for Life pro-life rally is set to hit the nation’s capitol on Jan. 24, bringing thousands of pro-life activists to Washington to commemorate the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion nationwide.

Held every year since 1974, the year following the high court’s decision, the march regularly draws upwards of 150,000 activists each year to Washington to both mark the anniversary of the Roe decision and to oppose the continued existence of abortion on demand.

This year’s march will feature Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-Minn.) as the keynote speaker at its Rose Dinner event that marks the end of a weekend of protests and ceremonies focused on ending abortion.

The march also comes on the heels of two high-profile stories that served to foist abortion back into the public eye after being largely ignored following the 2009 health care debate.

One story was the shocking figure that 41 percent of pregnancies in New York City end in an abortion. That figure, twice the national average, was called “chilling” by New York Catholic Archbishop Timothy Dolan, who also said he was “embarrassed” for the city over the abnormally high rate of abortions.

The second major abortion story is that of a Philadelphia abortionist – Dr. Kermit Gosnell – who was charged with eight counts of murder after investigators discovered that one woman and seven babies died during botched abortion procedures that he performed.

Organizers of the March plan an entire weekend of activity for pro-life activists coming to Washington. A small rally will take place on Sunday in the city’s Lafayette Park across from the White House. On Monday, much larger main rally will take place on the National Mall. The main rally will also serve as the starting point for the march itself.

The march will begin on the National Mall and end in front of the Supreme Court building located directly behind the U.S. Capitol.

Maryland PING!

Why are they doing it on Monday, instead of Saturday (Roe anniversary)? Do they want to make sure the Supremes are in?

I admire Michelle Bachmann! Her name gets associated with all the good stuff! Tea parties. Letting babies live - stuff like that. More power to her!

These were live births followed by murder. We need to control the language the left uses to soften the evil of their actions.

Indeed.

The headlines focus on the 7 infants that were murdered during the “botched” abortions, and nevermind about the thousands murdered during the successful abortions.

Whenever the 22nd falls on a weekend, the March is held on the following Monday. That’s so people can visit their Representatives and Senators - although most aren’t there because Congress isn’t in session until Tuesdays.

Every year thousands attend and every year there is NOTHING about it on the news. The news only reports on isolated crazies who commit violence — violence is the only way to get coverage of opposition to the ongoing mass murder of children.

Well, there you go. The actual Congresspeople are safely out of reach of the little people, and the “mainstream” media will basically ignore us no matter which day we do it on. Might as well do it today. We got our message across last Nov. 2.

A Pro-Life Prayer For Our President And Public Officials

Baby with TearLord God, Author of Life and Source of Eternal Life,

Move the hearts of all our public officials and especially our President, to fulfill their responsibilities worthily and well to all those entrusted to their care.

Help them in their special leadership roles, to extend the mantle of protection to the most vulnerable, especially the defenseless unborn, whose lives are threatened with extermination by an indifferent society.

Guide all public officials by your wisdom and grace to cease supporting any law that fails to protect the fundamental good that is human life itself, which is a gift from God and parents.

You are the Protector and Defender of the lives of the innocent unborn. Change the hearts of those who compromise the call to protect and defend life. Bring our nation to the values that have made us a great nation, a society that upholds the values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all.

Mary, the Mother of the living, help us to bear witness to the Gospel of Life with our lives and our laws, through Christ, Our Lord.

Amen.
