PEGGY NOONAN: Why Obama's State of the Union Speech Will Be Unusually Good (Barf Alert!!!)
FOX News.com ^ | January 22, 2011 | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 01/22/2011 3:38:47 PM PST by Kaslin

The State of the Union Address is usually among the most important and least memorable of presidential speeches. The speech itself, in an august setting, is an opportunity for a president to break through in a new way. TV and radio carry it live, and it's hard for the average citizen to avoid seeing at least a piece of it. It's a real chance for a White House to tell the American people "This is where we stand, this is why we are here, this is what we believe in."

But most State of the Unions don't measure up. They get beaten down by the staffing process and flattened by the laundry-list aspects: "We'll do this and this and this." There's always too much going on in the speech, and in the end it's usually, in Churchill's phrase, a pudding without a theme.

The only one who kisses his ass, is Bill O’Reilly, that is why he got his interview for Superbowl Sunday

Watch for the White House to craft semi-ringing and wholly anodyne statements that will allow members of both parties to leap to their feet together, such as "Now and always, America stands for freedom." This will leave people at home thinking "Boy, they like this guy more than I thought."

In other words, they won't "Let Obama Be Obama."

I clicked on the link for the CZJ pictures only to realize I have her confused with another media ‘personality.’

Not hard for us. We'll watch something on our DVR, and if it shows up on any news we watch later, we'll just change the channel. I cannot stand even WATCHING the man speak, with his turned up nose and condescending air.

Me, too. I read her stuff back when she admired Reagan. Now, it seems that she’s got it bad for Obama and totally ditched Reagan’s principles. She’s evidently living in an alternate universe.

I feel the exact same way. If I see his face on the TV I will immediately change it and if his voice comes over the radio which it does everyday since the press just cant get enough I either sing loudly to drown out his voice or I turn the raido off until he is gone from the airwaves. It's funny I listen to talk raido alot and at the top of the hour news always starts with the words “President Obama”
so when I hear it as I am attempting to turn off the sound I make up my own statement which cannot be repeated here
due to no profanity

Just another Porch Conservative. Her claim to fame is a speechwriter for a President who wrote all of his own speeches.

Pray for America

“I can’t believe anyone follows this aging, air-headed, fawning bimbo.”

Someone keeps posting her moronic drivel on FR, so she thinks she’s still important.

If he meant what he said; might be good; but there is nothing good or attractive; or even admirable or comforting. . .when the message is as inauthentic as is the messenger.

Does Peggy really believe that after decades of hatefilled, anti-America/anti-Democracy; anti-capitalist education and indoctrination along with his enthusiasm for his 'spiritual' hate-filled, years of Sunday 'sermons' - that Obama, has now, changed?

Pulllleeeze, Peggy. Get real! Life is too short an

I used to really like her; somewhere towards end of Bush years; I changed my mind.

Life is too short and now because of Obama, even more dangerous than it was, to even go here.

He’s going to talk about inventions and stuff. And he might mention the military and the war and all that stuff. Then maybe he’ll throw his wife a kiss and other stuff like that. Just a lot of fluff & stuff.

A prediction: President Obama's speech will be unusually good. Why? Because he's showing signs of understanding that if you say something simply, clearly and sparingly, it can stick. As a rule, when Mr. Obama speaks, he literally says too many words, and they're not especially interesting words. They're dull and bureaucratic or windy and vague, too round and soft to pierce and enter your brain.

Peggy must be channeling Emperor Joseph II, who addressed Mozart thusly in Amadeus:

My dear young man, don't take it too hard. Your work is ingenious. It's quality work. And there are simply too many notes, that's all. Just cut a few and it will be perfect.

My dear young man...too many notes...too many words...
