The report of a school police officer shot last week touched off one of the largest Los Angeles-area manhunts in recent memory and forced thousands of students to remain in their classrooms for hours as officers searched for the attacker.
Now law enforcement officials allege Officer Jeffrey Stenroos was lying when he said a gunman shot him in the chest as he patrolled near a San Fernando Valley high school Jan. 19. He was arrested Thursday night on suspicion of filing a false police report.
"The current state of the investigation refutes Stenroos' initial account of the incident and we are now certain that there is no outstanding suspect in this shooting," Police Chief Charlie Beck said at a news conference Thursday night.
A law enforcement official, who asked not to be named because he was not authorized to speak about the case, said Stenroos was mishandling a firearm when he was shot, but he did not go into any more detail.

Wow!
“I’m the only one professional enough to carry this Glock .40.”
What do you expect from the LAUSD? They can’t fire any incompetent teachers and are apparently stuck with incompetent cops.

‘....said Stenroos was mishandling a firearm when he was shot, but he did not go into any more detail.’
A lot of that going on w/ the thin skinned line. Now if Joe Blow had done this you’d never hear the end of why civilians shouldn’t be allowed to own HGs.
Lucky some kid that matched his description wasn’t shot dead over a cell phone.
He needs to be fired, tried and charged.
There were reports of children in locked down schools having to pee in buckets while they searched for the “gunman”. Also, If this officer made up the entire story, then he should have to reimburse the cities every last dime spent on searching for the “gunman”.......out of his pension...

A quick reconstruction of the 10 second prior to the incident.
This is it!
Yup, but its certainly not a given. The govt can come up w/ all sorts of reasons (ie excuses) to cut the thin skinned line a break. There are times when it applies but mostly it doesn’t. Then again govt employees seem to be above the law the Little People must obey or else.
The unions will be demanding he keep his job.
obviously you don’t know what you are talking about....the officer was arrested by the police. I get so sick of people like you talking crap about the police. Tell you what, the next time you are mugged, your house is broken into, your child is abducted just go ahead and take care of it yourself. For just a minute imagine you work every night on the street and your wife is just waiting to hear that some POS thug has killed you and for what 40 k a year? Do us all a favor, don’t call 9-11 the next time something happens to you or your loved ones, I am sure that you as a big strong man can take care of it yourself.
When our home was invaded in 1992, we did call 911 and frantically told them there was someone in our home. 35 minutes later, long after the perp had ransacked the house and stole our wallets, LAPD shows up and casually walks to the front door wiping the donut dust from their mouths. So please, don’t lecture me.
....and one last thing, my original comment was regarding the incompetence of the LAUSD Cop who perpetrated the fraud, not the LAPD Cops who arrested him.
Whatever...”donut dust” you deserve a lecture, give me a damn break! Get a gun and protect yourself and your wife. With the amount of problems California has I am sure they must prioritize the calls and unfortunately for you, you didn’t make the cut. If you think the police suck why don’t you go to POST, get certified, get a job on the force, deal with the total crap of society every day, get promoted, never see your family and change things. Yeah, I didn’t think so.
