Man, the BS is flying today, isn’t it?

Today is a good day to die.
I didn't say for whom.

"Why would a net increase cause the unemployment rate to rise ?!?"

Because we have more young people entering the workforce than we have older people exiting the workforce. That is why the imposition of Obamacare is so important to this administration - if you get more elderly people to start exiting the work force due to poor health or death, unemployment goes down!

Stuart Varney says that ‘fewer people are looking for work’ because the jobs just are not there. Those people are no longer counted.

I'm a bankruptcy paralegal. Business is booming like I haven't seen in years. Trust me, people are NOT finding jobs, and the ones they've been taking are at $8 - $10.00 per hour. Very few have been offered full-time work and/or benefits.

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!

Actually, the U-6 did go up.

Thanks. I only got a cursory look at the TV/Fox take on his. Then, living in NE, I had to get up on a ladder to fight ice damming. If anyone cares, the best thing I've found is a compressor driven air-hammer with a muffler shearing tip. It makes the ice spall and fall off. The only risk is that you might chisel your shingles, so it takes some touch.

1. And how is the construction (non-govt. contracting) employment?

2. And where are all those new homes being built?

3. And why the cry that govt. pensions are having incoming funding problems?

3. And why the “pep” talk yesterday of high food cost excuse because of “developing countries”, yet we are suppose to be the breadbasket of the world, but food prices (and gas/fuel) are high HERE?

Could it be because treasury buyers see another scam? “Burn me twice, shame on me.”

So what is the differential? More than 36,000/month change in the total job-seeking workforce just from age alone?

I didn’t get their bullsh*t math, either. They claim to have added 36,000 jobs but dropped the unemployment number by at least 0.5%, which is 675,000 people in a 135 million person labor pool.

I heard on the news yesterday that this month it’s 9.8%.

I heard the very same. This "9%" must be a lie. Too few jobs have been "created" to cause a nearly 1% drop in unemployment.

Gallup puts unemployment today at 9.9% and underemployment at over 19%.

(I heard on the news yesterday that this month it’s 9.8%.) I read that yesterday too, I wonder what happened to that number?

Someone in the Labor Dept stayed up all night cooking the books?

So if 100% of workers gave up looking, then we’d have 0% unemployment?

Shhh. Don't give Obama any ideas.

So if 100% of workers gave up looking, then we’d have 0% unemployment?

That's basically it. If the labor force consisted of 10 people and all ten of those people were employed, we'd have full employment according to the statistics. It's a quirky way of stating the figures, but that's how it's done. Otherwise you'd have to figure whether or not stay-at-home moms, full-time students, the disabled and retirees were "unemployed".

It's kind of cagey as to whether or not the contraction of the labor force we've seen in recent years counts for that though. I'd probably look at a little harder at the U6 figures and labor force participation than headline numbers if I were paid to make public policy.
