So if 100% of workers gave up looking, then we’d have 0% unemployment?

It's the marxist utopia: Nobody works and everybody has everything they want. Simple.

They are either showeling snow (job) or can’t get to unemployment office, because they are lazy to dig out the car.
Anyone counting closed businesses???

I think the “steep decline” to 9.0% reflects a very large chunk of folks who have simply left the market; given up on ever finding a job and not on the UI rolls.

They don't say 600k people dropped off unemployment. They say a “survey” was conducted.

Surveys are funny things. You can use them to lie, or to support the truth. Surveys do not, however, provide hard empirical facts. If 600k people are not unemployed anymore, then they need to demonstrate that through the use of facts, not statistical samples.

Varney stated deep in the report 300,000 gave up looking for work thus the lower unemployment rate.

Yes, but if so, the U-6 number should go up... but it went down, also. So, I'm a bit confused on this. The economy clearly isn't great, but it's had a lot of stimulation.

You have really come around - that was an excellent summary. I congratulate you on being one of the few FReepers who understands the big picture. Perhaps the only remaining hurdle is to abandon the left/right paradigm by focusing on the true orientation: the People vs the Criminals.

Just ask yourself "What would T Jefferson do?" I believe he would rightly put aside such political issues that typically divide us, and save his moral outrage at what has become of this country. The criminals who masquerade as partisans just laugh to themselves at the stupidity of Americans who keep allowing them to rape & pillage at will.

They don't give a sh!t if it the state spends funds on welfare or warfare, as long as the bankers get to loan phantom money, with interest, payable by unborn generations' taxed earnings.

I think they must be using the same accounting team that they used calculating the “jobs saved” by the stimulus.

The regime has decreed that unemployment will decline, but the regime’s policies are destroying jobs. The only alternative left for this regime is to fudge the numbers. Welcome to the Banana Republic formerly known as the USA.

When the protests began in Egypt, I heard numerous reports in the American news media that the Egyptians were rioting over their dismal economy and unemployment. I searched for current Egyptian unemployment numbers and found figures of 10 percent unemploymernt and up to 25 percent unemployment for Egyptian youth. Aren’t those numbers approximately the same as ours?

After the first day or so, I didn’t hear any more news reports that the Egyptians were protesting their economy. The media switched to the rights of expression and assembly, as well as the right to internet access as the reason for the protests.

The Obama supporting media obviously figured out that they couldn’t report overthrowing Mubarek for economic reasons lest they suggest that Obama is also an economic failure.

You got that right. My hubby had a job interview this past Tuesday, and the gal interviewing him said one of the biggest things they’ve come up against are guys who are on unemployment who are weighing the benefits of unemployment for another year, or working. Guess what most of them choose. We don’t have that luxury, being self employed for the last 10+ years, we don’t get unemployment!

Fox News keeps trumpeting this uncritically like it's true and good news.

They have truly become useful idiots.

What the MSM is NOT telling us is;

The number of people on Food Stamps has almost tripled, since MaObama dropped Clinton Era Welfare Reform, there are now three times the number of people signed up for Welfare “benefits”.

According to the latest Food Stamps program statistics, there are 150 Million people receiving food assistance cards.

J.P Morgan was awarded the contract to handle it and they are making Millions off of these Food Credit Card transactions.

This thing has escalated into a nightmare! It's a mess and so out of control, there will be no way to fix it.

So, I'm a bit confused on this.

Check out this link. It will help explain the distortions in the numbers. http://www.zerohedge.com/article/nfp-36000-huge-miss-146000-expectations-9-unemployment

Positively AMAZING how great things are going! Barack Obama and his admin are practically magicians with the way they have made the unemployment rate drop so precipitously this month; even while there are so few jobs being created.

I am stuned, I tell you, just stuned at his success getting us out of this depression!

I don´t understand this figure: 600k less unemployed people but only 36k jobs added (49k in manufacturing, which is great news). Does it mean that more than half million stopped to look for a job?
