serious question - living in china, does your brother worry about the issue of toxic metal contamination in food/water? I don’t know how widespread the issue there is, but there is enough reported incidence of heavy metal (cadmium in particular) popping up in their food supply to make me assume the true rate of contamination has to be considerably worse. Don’t know how geographically localized it is.
I have found that most people take for granted the generally good quality of air and food we enjoyed in the US in the past (american-grown), and aren’t wired right to think of things in terms of how the chinese view matters. That 14 million tons of cadmium-tainted rice got my attention in a big way, one can only assume their food supply is full of toxic stuff.
Eating out gets local water (used to cook) along with local produce in one shot.
Cadmium is bad news, and too many products from china have it, from baby toys to paint to food.
