When I was a lad in the 1980s, Japanese was supposed to be THE language to learn. Then, in the 1990s, it was Spanish, and later with the rise of the EU, French or German. Lately, it was Mandarin.

In the late 60’s in Texas, Russian was the big deal. I ended up with a minor in it as a result. The feds give away our money, and the schools snap it up. If the feds said to teach Urdu these idiots would do it just to get the funding. It’s all a racket to impose the leftist agenda. The message in the 60’s was, “the Russians are taking over, get ready.” Now it’s the Muslims who are taking over in the eyes of the left.
They are always ready to be taken over, but never ready for liberty and personal responsibility. Leftists need to be excised from our education system or it is doomed.

Its not about the language, it comes with a lot more than language. Mansfield ISD says in addition to language, the grant provides culture, government, art, traditions and history as part of the curriculum.

Japanese is still a good language to learn if you’re interested/involved in robotics or Computer Science, IMO.

Yeah, but the 80s were the boom of manga and anime (Captain Harlock, Lupin, City Hunter...) And even then I don’t remember it as a mandatory class.

Spanish is still the language to learn here in Texas. But Arabic? For what reasons for heavens sakes. This is absurd.

We’re lucky to learn English first these days.
