So who were the 3 republicans who voted against spending cuts?

and its actually %100 billion according to Cantor not 60 as the WApo puts it.

What happened to the (great) idea suggested a month or two ago that the House Republicans pass an “essential services” bill, saying that if there is a “threat” to shut down the government due to reaching the debt limit or a veto of the budget, spending will be cut automatically on all “nonessential” services, in a specified order, but will be preserved for “essential services” such as defense and social security that we all agree are necessary

That way, if the Dems refuse to accept the “essential services” bill and shut the whole government, it would be the sole fault of the Dems that granny would not get social security and medicare, soldiers would not get weapons, etc. The Republican “Essential Services” bill would not allow that to happen. Nobody will miss the non-essential services like the department of education for a while.

The problem with the general govt. shutdown during the Gingrich days was that it lacked credibility. Both essential and nonessential services had to stop. That was a non-starter with the public. An “Essential Services “ bill would greatly enhance the leverage of the Republicans.

NO EVEN CLOSE to being sufficient to do anything to our debt !

Need to do a LOT more to be classified as “dramatic”....

very UNDERwhelming if you ask me...
