Those of you familiar with my work know that I study Maya-Meso-American Calendrics (MMAC). The MMAC system is not what we in the Western world understand as a calendar.
Only the most superficial details about MMAC have been popularized as the now infamous Mayan Calendar and its cycle renewal date of Dec. 21, 2012.
The poorly informed and opportunistic have attributed many erroneous meanings to the end of the Mayan calendar cycle.
The general and popular misconception is one of spectacular natural catastrophe. And there is not a single shred of evidence to substantiate any of the spectacularly catastrophic scenarios.
From my vantage point the catastrophe is upon us and its called Western Civilization version 1.0 gasping for its last few breaths as it strives to maintain the status quo at all costs.
What more calamity do we need in order to recognize that the world as a whole is in the grips of a serious and unprecedented socio-environmental crisis?
You might ask how is the world crisis, the solar sunspot cycle, critical junctures, 2012 and the Maya-Meso-American Calendrical system (MMAC) related.

Hold on a sec. I have to get my Reynold Wrap. Okay, I am good to go...
Did you bring enough for everyone? You bad.
He has cloaked his Utopian Marxism behind pseudo archaeological mumbo jumbo, presenting it as science.
That said, a much less spacey dissertation on the same general ideas (that history has patterns and cycles) is the scholarly work, The Fourth Turning.
Well said!
Or should I say: Spot on!
Both work.
All good.
I think their is something to “cycles” - but his website is too tough to read.
I knew a geologist that was into the whole “cycles” thing. Among many things, he linked cooler temperatures to low sun spots (way back before it was fashionable, ca. 1980’s). He also linked low sun spots to high gold prices.
At first I figured “Well, if you look hard enough, you can always find something that correlates with something else.” That was back in the 90’s.
Now, with continued low sun spots, cooler temps, and higher gold prices......
And, recent news from Mexico on loss of crops, etc. Lack of food, higher prices, etc. will put a strain on things. I don’t put anything on that Mayan calendar end of the world stuff though. I’m guessing they probably ran it out for quite a while and either ran out of rock to write on, or patience.
This is not new at all. There have been theories stemming from the correlation of sunspot cycles and civil unrest for a while now. Certain radical leftist groups have attempted to time their fomenting “revolution” to them in the past.
The only way out from the perennial nightmare of Western culture is a Planetary culture based on egalitarian, eco-sensitivity, gender balance and non-violence.
It's all so clear now, how could I have ever been so blind!

WHY do so many people mock the Holy Bible, but lose sleep over the natterings of Central American savages???
WOW! I struck out on all four. We're not getting to nirvana as long as I'm around.

2010 total: 51 days (14%)

Updated 18 Feb 2011
We had a long stretch of spotless days in the Solar Minimum cycle and are now, going to Maunder Maximum, getting our spots back...we had 5 today. We've only had one ‘spotless day” this year. That's one in 2 months.
This winter may be Solar Minimum's last hurrah for a decade - that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
LOL. Lucky for you that the rest of us that live our lives in perfect harmony with these principles abide by #4 and can’t rub you out!
