(Gov) Mitch Daniels: Indiana Republicans Should Drop the Right to Work Bill

Mitch Daniels: Indiana Republicans Should Drop the Right to Work Bill

Color me extremely disappointed with Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels right now:

Gov. Mitch Daniels signaled this afternoon that Republicans should to drop the right-to-work bill that has brought the Indiana House to a standstill for two days and imperiled other measures.

Daniels told reporters this afternoon that he expects House Democrats will return to work if the bill dies. It would be unfortunate if other bills are caught up in the turmoil, he said.

He will not send out state police to corral the Democrats, the Republican governor said. The Democrat minority has right to express its views, he added.

The governor clung to his view that this is not the year to tackle right to work.

What a jerk. The Democrat minority may have a “right to express its views,” but that doesn’t mean it has a right to get its way.

Is Daniels the same one who said we needed to call a “truce” on social issues? He’s quickly losing the goodwill he gained from CPAC.

Daniels' remarks in the article...

I trust that people’s consciences will bring them back to work and I choose to believe that our friends in the minority will, having made their point, will come back and do their duty and the jobs they are paid to do.

He thinks Dems will play nice in the sandbox. What a sweet kid. Anybody tell him yet that Santa isn't real?

Let me get something straight here. I keep hearing about these governors “sending out the state police to retrieve these missing democrats”. We know they are in another state so what in the hell are the trooper going to do, go to the state line and wait??? I don't think state police from one state have any jurisdiction in the next. So to me this is all just bull crap. Not that I don't want these rats exterminated but this rhetoric is stupid to me.

Mitch, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for proving to everyone precisely why I never wanted to support you for president. Kthxbye.

Daniels said in December that he sees the merit in the “right to work” laws that 22 states now have on their books.

“Let me say, there’s a lot to recommend this. It does hold us back economically, there’s no doubt about that,” he said.

The governor said the state loses out on “perhaps as many as a quarter of the deals” in which businesses are “competing states off against each other” to decide where to relocate.

“So it’s a very legitimate issue,” he said.

But, he said, he told legislative leaders in the Republican-led House and Senate that he would prefer they not address the issue this year.

“I think it’s too big to do without having discussed it out in the open first. And, I will also say that I think it would have the potential, just tactically, to possibly reduce or wreck the chances for education reform and local government reform and criminal justice reform and the things that we have a wonderful chance to do,” he said.

“So that’s my point of view. I would say to the folks who believe in this, you’ve got good reasons, but get out there and share them. Build a case. Visit with our fellow citizens about why this is a good idea. If you persuade them, you’ll be able to prevail in the right way and the right time.”

Whether Daniels has changed his mind on the issue is unclear. His press secretary said he is unavailable for interviews today.

I’ve already heard enough from the locals that Daniels bends over for the DUmocrats. My mind was made up on this asshat within six months of assuming office.
