The seat is held down by the seat belt, and the dog is strapped to the seat belt via his collar/body harness.

My dogs are always seatbelted in the car. Anyone who has seen what happens to a dog in an auto accident knows a seatbelt can save their lives, too. I do it because I love my dogs.
